That´s 4 weeks worth of data. under 25k units in four weeks must be really the lowest point of the series.

mmmm....I doubt it.
Unless there was some mega bundle. Even then, I don't think it would.

Japan and NA are Splatoon's biggest markets going by that split we saw weeks ago.
to get to 5 million, it'd need to like 1.5 million or more in both Japan and NA and hope the other 2 million was made up elsewhere.

not seeing it.

I see Splatoon at nearly 2 million (OR MORE! ) in both US and Japan, so near 4 million only with those market.
The rest Will be sold in the rest of world.

The market is in dire straights if a replacement isn't propped up to strongly foster the 3DS audience in the short to long term future. Everything else is doing different shades of hot-garbage for software.

Which one is more reliable? I'm honestly just shocked it hasn't gotten out of the 50 thousands yet. Microsoft system selling like shit in Japan isn't new to me, but this is pretty bad/comical.

I'm not sure, but I prefer MC numbers myself. Plus, XB1 is already at 54k on MC btw :p

Totally agree with you. 3DS software is doing well, so japanese market needs something quite similar in terms on this sales.

Apparently, overshipment was a reasonable strategy:

17./14. [3DS] Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate [1/1][Best Price!] <ACT> (Capcom) {2015.07.30} (¥3.769) - 3.385 / 16.968 <40-60%> (-1%)

MH Best Price never fails to work on its legs.

Best releases are overshipped very often. I remember a lot of them having 0-20% sellthrough on the first week. It makes sense because those are not normal releases.

This ties back to (or echos) our discussion from last week, and I don't think the market and its developers can afford to see the NX handheld come to market and then twiddle their thumbs while expecting Nintendo to build the audience for them. Not this time.

How'd you work that one out haha?

Flipped a coin!

all Nintendo major titles are undertracked on M-C (AC, Splatoon, RH), DQ8 opening week -30k compared to Famitsu

#FamitsuSuperiorTracker, #MediaCreateHatesNintendo

In some cases it's because the download cards that MC doesn't includes in software sales.

ps: Don't know if DQ VIII has download cards

I have to post "wow" at this... I mean... wow... to say it's a failure in Japan is an understatement

The 360 didn't do too hot there but at least it managed to be viable platform for some niche publishers. The XB1 can't even manage that. Cave didn't make anything for it so far and 5pb started porting their XB1 exclusive titles to other platforms shortly after release.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!

It has DD cards.
Still, let's not lose our heads though. We must remember that different trackers track different stores. So, we still have discrepancies without cards being involved. It's possible some discrepancies for titles sold through cards too can be explained by that as well (MC don't track them), but it's not something we can sa that lightly, so much to put together MC and Famitsu numbers. Simply out, we mustn't be careless.

Mobius managed to get through a month without completely collapsing:

They just released September's update that lets you adjust the battle speed, use full auto mode, made various UI improvements, and of course had this month's new content (jobs, chapter, cards, etc).

This might turn around pretty nicely then as they seem to be tackling a lot of the early on problems the game was facing. But we'll have to see what comes after the big update for retention.

They're updating monthly so basically they only need to make each update engaging for that long.

This is where Terra Battle comparatively imploded. Major social games normally meaningfully update every 2-4 weeks, whereas Terra Battle was closer to every 2-4 months.

This really makes me wonder how big the check is for Scalebound.

Poor duckroll!

They're funding it directly, not publishing a third party.
Ok this makes a lot more sense. I've always thought a Japanese company would be crazy to willingly put an exclusive game on the Xbone cause it'd be impossible to get a return on investment (at least regarding sales in Japan), but it sounds like Microsoft is just funding the game entirely.

Will the XBO even hit 100K LTD by the end of its lifecycle? :O

Well, in 2014 the XBO sold a bit over 43,000, considering so far is at 11,366, with the holidays i believe XBO will break the 15k mark in 2015... so, i think the sales will be some like this:

Code:
XBO Japan sales

[2014] 43,000
[2015] 15,000
[2016] 12,000
[2017] 8,000
[2018] 4,000
[2019] 1,000

imo, One will be lucky with 90k lifetime. :-/

All hardware is up this week, and most of the legs releases are up this week as well.

Any reason in particular? Obon is over right?

It ridiculous to imagine Splatoon selling as good as the pillars of NIntendo's franchise on the system, let alone witnessing it happen. What a hit that game is for Nintendo.

PS4 is up the same reason that the WiiU bounced up before XCX was released or any other "big" release that moves hardware to dedicated audiences. (And the free Bloodborne isn't hurting either.) Also DDO released.

3DS is up for obvious reasons: DQVIII and new color hardware.

WiiU can't simply be reasoned with right now due to Splatoon having taken off but its general ups-and-downs are simply oscillations on the general uptake of Splatoon. They are largely minor so not really relevant.

Vita is flat.

I'm not really seeing anything stand-out here, hardware dropped after Obon and has since remained flat. PS4 is up because a huge game is coming out next week. Current hardware is, in general, flat with the post-Obon drop.

It has finally began! Bic Camera Hachioji started to advertise a lot more Mario Maker.
What are GAF first week expectations for this game?

I'm not sure, but I think it hasn't ever sold its first shipment at all.

Most likely not, Microsoft has really overship XB1 some times...

^ If MGSV was this gen exclusive yes but with PS3 version existing I don't see as big boost. Personally predicting something like 50k for PS4 next week.

I think the crater immediately following a big sales holiday is usually the deepest dip, and things rebound slightly to a new normal after. Might just be my imagination though

I was just talking about the "general ups" of everything this week. Given that we're still post-Obon, I was expecting things to go down again unless there was a release (3DS/PS4). The fact everything was up again, even by a minor amount, surprised me.

I think this probably explains it, thanks.

the XB1 might as well not exist in japan. did MS even gain something from that release?

on a different note, the PSV is gonna pass the GameCube soon!

I wonder if MGSV will do the same as MGS4 did..

Before MGS4 release week

MGS4 release week

that blast from the past.

PSP blowing away the competition was like from bizarro world. last gen in japan was pretty crazy looking back.

I agree with fredrancour. Directly after the holidays you often see a ver very steep decline and it evens out in the following weeks. Of course other factors like immediate big releases help even further.
