I know your probably just talking about the PS4 version but do you think the game will struggle to reach 300k overall? If so I think you may be cutting the game short if you're judging it's potential off of a sequel nobody wanted and a remaster nobody in Japan asked for. Now obviously the game could bomb but considering not only is it targeting the younger demographic but also older fans of the series by being a more traditional JRPG it could do quite well overall.

Read the last sentence. :p

As I said, I think the original number was a reach for the Vita, as in it can be achieved. With a ~50-100k on the PS4, it'd be able to reach near 300k overall. Now, still, I think that's really optimistic as, while I think it will do well on the Vita, I think it could do not-so-well-at-all on the PS4 (to the point where I'd actually wager it doing better on the WiiU on simply the basis of target audience, lol, but neither making much sense to me as a platform for the game at all, especially given its aesthetic design).

That's what I thought just wanted to be 100% sure :) To which I agree that there's not a chance in hell it reaches 300k on PS4 alone. I still think you may be low balling the PS4 version though but I guess we'll have to wait and see how things play out. I personally think the the split will be like 100k PS4 and 250k PSV and each will be reached with relative ease.

But like I said my opinion could change once we get more details on the game.

Amusingly PS4 will then fall back behind Wii U again due to staggered holiday launches. And then probably pass it again depending on how much DQ Builders pushes it this holiday. Should be a fun next several months aligned.

Actually it is extremely unlikely that the PS4 would fall behind the WiiU launch aligned due to their staggered releases. The PS4 should end 2015 ~300,000 ahead of the WiiU launch aligned. In order for the PS4 to then fall behind the WiiU due to staggered holidays, the PS4 would need to sell 0 units for the first 23 weeks of 2016.

The WiiU did not have a pleasant 2014 holiday.

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
I wonder... Will Star Ocean 5 boost the PS4 for the holiday?

You're right, I mixed it up and was thinking Wii U's holiday would come sooner aligned but it's actually PS4 that gets a quicker holiday. I had it backwards.

Wii U had a terrible holiday 2014, and a worse Q1 2015. Yeah, I don't see it passing over PS4 aligned again then.

edit- although your 5-6 week estimate might be premature for PS4 overtaking Wii U. At 80 weeks it's almost 200k behind aligned. Even with a generous 100k MGS5 bump PS4 likely can't make it by then. We're probably looking at a solid 2 months minimum.

Luminous Arc 3, Dec.2009, LTD : 38k
platform : DS
systems sold : 25mln

Luminous Arc Infinity, Aug.2015, LTD : 25k
platform : Vita
systems sold : 4mln

clearly Vita is the problem...

Niche titles do not need a huge installed base to sell well. Luminous Arc revival did not work apparently.

Lack-luster predecessor from SOIV, never been a big franchise to begin with, and not really any strong presence of mind for the title even though its supposedly a 2015 game. Also P5 will likely end up being its competition (unless you want to count #FE which, of course, will sell billions!). People who pick it up, likely picked up a PS4 for other RPGs already or just play it on PS3 if they must.

I´m talking about an IP here and not about systems. I also don´t understand your concerns, you are basically confirming what I said, considering Luminous Arc 3 flopped compared to its predecessors and was the series low-point until recently only beaten by this revival. Since we aren´t talking about a multimillion seller but about a niche series (sub 100k units), the userbase comparison seems like a very desperate excuse for a very lackluster performance.

On the off chance someone has some insight on this, is Yoru no nai Kuni doing as great as COMG is insinuating? From the research I've done on past Gust games performance on COMG it seems like they all barely get any points before release (usually below 20). This game however has 74pts a month before it's released, not even counting the PS3 Skus.

Could this game be a big hit for Gust/Koei or do you guys think it'll fail to reach 100k LT like most recent Gust JRPGs?
Surprised me as well, Gust's game was launching two weeks earlier but these (YnnK and Tokyo Xanadu) aren't the kind of games that go up in preorders that close to release.
Now with its delay they are launching the same week (1 day extra for Xanadu), should be pretty interesting: Gust new IP on 3 PS systems vs Falcom reimagine of old IP only on Vita.
Coming off latest Atelier games not reaching 100k, I thought it'd be hard for YnnK to reach it for Gust, meanwhile coming off latest Kiseki games doing over 200k I thought Xanadu had a legit chance at over 100k. Now it seems way more fuzzy.

So according to the Famitsu interview from the latest issue, development for Monster Hutner Stories started 2 years ago (though they first started looking into making a RPG 5-6 years ago). Yeah, no way this wasn't going to be on 3DS.

Monster Hunter Stories looks like a really great game, based on what've seen/read so far.

This (from the website) is pretty self explanatory ;)

Though I'd say the price is more self-explanatory (17 000 Yen vs 16 000 Yen).

***

Atlus announced Budget edition of Etrian Odyssey IV... kinda random to do it now, methinks. Comes out on November 5th for 3218 Yen. Not a bad idea since the original version costs 11 000 Yen on Amazon.

I don't know if it means that Japan loves Splatoon, Japan doesn't like Smash 4 much, or both. Either way, I'm glad to see Splatoon succeed over in Japan.

Oh yeah, I tend to use Famitsu for historical comparisons. 1,792,649 Wii U to 1,605,227 PS4.

Smash 4 on 3DS already sold more than Brawl there, so Smash should still be a "Smashing" Success there.^_^

yea i am sure vita had nothing to do with what you had to say, lmao at calling the other guy desperate.

Did a few quests, graphics are really good and gameplay is kinda solid.

Oh god.

I think I've been less negative on Capcom's newest mobile efforts simply because the amount of time they've taken to make them.

Like it's pretty rare that someone delays a game that doesn't seem to be suffering major technology/production issues for 1.5-2 years and it turns out abjectly horrible, and we're talking about mobile games to boot receiving this much development time.

Breath of Fire 6 doesn't look appealing as a Breath of Fire title, but I think it might actually be a decent Korean-style f2p MMO game.

Now, if they have staying power, a successful service design, and a sane yet profitable monetization model is an entirely different discussion, but if they can at least get to the state of "making games that are appealing" they're halfway to finding a success.

Looking at previous efforts, I do think they've shown a turn for care with their new works. I guess they got a wake up call on "you can't just throw out a thing with a name on it" and are better managing their products.

Heck, I could say they've been better, in general, with managing their MonHun brand (given the apparent care and quality put to MonHun Stories and the potential audience expansion it offers) but there's still a lot to be seen with how they actually handle content roll outs with MHX and MHS, and what they do with the games with regards to the west.

I still find it funny that the Hunter and his/her cat are in AC:HHD.

Well given the target demographic, I don't think it would have gone anywhere else regardless of when it came out unless it was 2017+.

I mean, nothing is particularly good here. And software is very bad across the board if you're not the 3DS. Moving console hardware is great and all but software is the blood and its seemingly missing.
.

That's what I meant yes, thanks :)
Seemed worse than usual to me, since it wasn't like a past-holiday week.

There's nothing mythical about them, they play Pokemon (or a plethora of other Nintendo properties) and Yokai Watch (and whatever else L-5, Bandai, and many others bring to the table for said kids to play) and are called children who like to play with their friends at school, parks, and other "cool places" and don't buy or need home consoles (and play minecraft on the Vita).

DQXI isn't targeting children, and two games don't make a demographic (especially when they are provided on platforms that already have said demographic like the Vita).

I'd say there's also some potential overlap with the female gamer demographic for many of these games as well.

Said kids also have mobile offerings in abundance.

Ah ok. Do you have the original source by any chance (just wondering :) )? To be fair, did the game sell all that much on anything but 3DS though?

Amazon JP's got them up for preorder with a 11/19 release:

PS3 | PSV | 3DS | PS4 | XB1 | Wii U |

For those looking to import, AmiAmi is currently accepting preorders for the region free platforms (with discounts making the Vita/PS3 versions like $20 USD). Wii U and 3DS don't seem to be listed.

This is the time for me to buy. I didn't want to drop $60 on a puzzle game, but <$30 is just right.

interesting new entries, the hottest western game for holiday season and the RE:R2 japan-exclusive-retail version

iirc Mario Maker currently has a 2pt step up average by day, but it's still low profile, ok that it's a long seller title but maybe Nintendo overestimated it ? Splatoon is still strong and maybe could potentially hurt MMaker sales ?

Games rely on UGC are either hit or miss IMHO. It could still become huge in the end.

It will do well, imo. Have you seen those ads outside Yodobashi? I would suggest a duo regarding legs. Mario Maker and Splatoon can co-exist.

Actually, this is the first day it's gone 2pts up. It was going up 6 points per day earlier.
