Famitsu fiscal year first-half results conference: famitsu.com/news/201210/12022707.html

- 3DS cumulative software sales are about 10 million units behind DS, launch aligned.
- 3DS 3rd party about 50%, while on the DS they were less than 30%.

I wonder are 3rd parties doing so much better on 3DS or is Nintendo doing that much worse?

Probably a combination of both ( much better 3rd party support from the get go, much less games released by Nintendo AND lack of the Brain Age like storm so far) + eShop getting games that would have been released retail on DS, especially first party ( from 2004 to late 2008).

You have to wonder if it's ever coming.

30% of 30 million is 9 million.

50% of 20 million is 10 million.

3rd parties are doing better, but most of the difference comes form Nintendo doing much worse.

(Those are hypothetical software sales, not the actual numbers.)

Did Nintendo release more games in the same period on the DS, or which were the DS games selling so much better on the DS?

Definitely a better DS lineup there. Of course it's not completely fair with Nintendo making more e-shop games and all, but they're definitely slowing down at retail.

Ha, won't it be interesting when the best selling 3DS game is a 3rd party game for a while (which is what will happen when MH4 comes out). It probably won't hold that title for long with Pokemon likely coming next year

Well, also probably due to the fact some of the games released on DS packed now wouldn't have any space in retail. Still, Nintendo is basically concentrating its retail efforts: less quirky / poor saleswise experiments and more big titles ( even newish IP, like Kid Icarus: Uprising ). And the experiments now are finding a space as downloadable titles.

I'm still waiting to see their supposed new IP that is supposed to appeal to the casual audience that they said they were making. Animal Crossing is going to be an extremely interesting litmus test for how interested many people are. It's not a completely casual game like Nintendogs, but something basically anyone can play and seems to be a real sequel this time. If it underperforms, it would be interesting to see the direction Nintendo goes with these types of games on 3DS

I hope they'll announce it soon
if it actually exist. Considering we're talking about Iwata saying it, I think it exists, but until they don't show us anything...

EDIT: About Animal Crossing. If Comgnet is anything to go by, Nintendo should think to at least double those 200k of first shipment.

10 million selling titles released in a span of 18 months (5 of them sold over 3.8M). I'm not sure if Nintendo will ever achieve the same number of million sellers during 3DS lifespan.

Ok, let's do some science-fiction:

[3DS] Mario Kart 7 (Nintendo) - 451.932 / 1.805.429 / 25,03% 01/12/11
[3DS] Super Mario 3D Land (Nintendo) - 344.698 / 1.679.872 / 20,52% 03/11/11
[3DS] New Super Mario Bros. 2 (Nintendo) - 430.185 / 1.233.412 / 34,88% 28/07/12

[3DS] Animal Crossing 3DS
[3DS] Pokemon Mystery Dungeon 3DS
[3DS] Super Smash Bros
[3DS] Main Pokémon
[3DS] Pokémon Remake
[3DS] Pokémon Sequel (or third version)

[3DS] Kirby - Tomodachi - Rhythm Tengoku - Zelda 2D?

Some of them were really surprises.
I mean, even NSMB sold much more all people were expecting.
Nintendogs, Brain Training, Brain Academy, Tomodachi Collection, Rhythm Heaven: all of them were not hit before the release.

Hachima did a first day sales report again.

Shop 1:
- Project X Zone 34 copies sold.
- Bravely Default 33 copies sold.
- People buying the Blue/Black 3DS XL (was also released on the 11th) along with these titles.
- Tokitowa 13 copies sold. Doing better than Sol Trigger.
- Dishonored 4 copies sold. Sold out.

Shop 2:
- Bravely Default selling well.
- Project X Zone is doing alright, expected a bit more sales.
- Tokitowa and Dishonored sold out.

Shop 3:
- Bravely Default sold out during the morning.
- Tokitowa and Project X Zone are also sold out.
- Dishonored only had one copy and it sold, so it's sold out now.

Shop 4:
- Rocksmith 100% sellthrough, Tokitowa regular edition 70% sellthrough, Bravely Default 50%, Project X Zone 20%.
- In terms of total sales numbers, Bravely Default is a bit ahead of the rest.

Chain of stores:

- Some stores are sold out of Bravely Default.
- Tokitowa's limited edition 50% sellthrough, regular edition not even 40% sellthrough, Rocksmith 100% sellthrough, Dishonored 30% sellthrough.

When I went to my closest Geo to get the game, there were more dummy boxes on the shelves for BD than PxZ. Not sold out, but I asked and the woman said there weren't many left. (all the boxes on the shelves are photocopied dummies for those two). Weird considering the complete lack of mainstream advertising. The FB page has got about 2,000 more likes in the last 48 hours, too. Both were 13% "off" the MRPP.
AC pre-orders were out in force too. Couple of posters up. Wii U stuff was up too, advertising pre-orders. Main focus was on MH.

EDIT: Also download cards were fewer and more expensive than at Yamada Denki. Only one hook per game (as opposed to four) and they were about 500 yen more expensive than the boxed copies, but still a little cheaper than the MRRP.
This is the display right when you walk into entrance to the store (Geo). There were more "sold out" display boxes there yesterday. There are also a few of those "sold out" boxes on the side in the 3ds section. The next aisle over on the right is the Project X Zone display. The BD display was RE6 last week.

With these positives feedbacks about BV & PxZ sales, the new 3DS color and knowing how the console sold 2 weeks ago (around 8Ok), with a new color but without any major release, can we expect 3DS to be around 100K next week?

I dont think 3DS is going to cross the 100k sales. Maybe close to 70-75K.
If Bravely Default is selling at least as well as Project X Zone, could they both open at 100k or more?

That was my expectation before this week anyway. Was expecting PxZ over 150K and BD over 100K.

Knowing with the latest new color it had a +20K boost from 60K to 80K without interesting new games, I was thinking at least 80K again.

And even i am moderately surprised
My copy of B.Def has been annexed by my wife for her hospital stay, i was toying with the idea of just buying it so went for a wander to the local games stores.

No shortage of copies, but that's by the by - glad it's doing well. The art in the game is FNUGGUGGGOMGZ. So good.

No one wants a throne you've been sitting on!
Some funny news was that at Yodobashi in Shinjuku there was a sign saying that the 360 version of Dishonored could only be purchased though amazon.co.jp.

I guess thats their way of saying its not stocked at the store.

Bravely Default could lead to another drive for 3DS hardware sales with female sales catching up with the system; if it meets its intended audience anyway.
