It's part of the game, a risk everyone doing predictions must know... and you never know what can happen.
EDIT: ... But certainly Gundam won't do what jesusraz predicted.

Closer to/in December if you expect your game to sell well for gift-giving, then overshipping to some degree is better to make it more likely to have stock when the the rush comes. This should be fine. If it was late May, then it might raise more of an eyebrow.

It was meant to be 275,000, but then I missed the '2' and ended up changing my mind completely, haha! I'll still likely be miles off with them all, which is why I never participate in the predictions I would dispute this claim to some degree. I've been gaming for about 30 years now but even so am hesitant to definitively say "this game is good" or "this game isn't good" except in a very clear cut case. And for all of the Level 5 games that I have played (DQ 8 and 9, Jeanne D'Arc, Professor Laytons, Rogue Galaxy, Dark Cloud and WKC) I would say they were either fun with flaws or at the very worst (Rogue Galaxy and WKC) mediocre.
I would unquestionably recommend the first 4 games on my list to anyone who was a fan of those genres and I myself actually had fun with WKC even though I acknowledge that it wasn't anything special. I know everyone has their own opinion and for some reason Duckroll feels especially burned by Level-5 but I've personally had enough quality gaming experiences from them to at least stay interested in what they are making.

Gundam could really be amazing...and Mario Kart even more if it obtains to bring on many customers still not with a 3DS yet. It'll be an amazing week, the first of a great series to come. ...And 3DS more than 100k this week?
However, damn at how the Saturn was priced. O_O

So much copies... How much do they cost? I believe I'm seeing 5000 or something, but I don't want to say wrong things...

On the plus side, I walked by a few stores offering 3,800 (it's always cash in Japan, none of that in-store-credit crap) for Mario used. With pre-order deals and what-not, you can often buy a game and sell it back a week or two later (if you are so inclined) and take only a 200-400 yen hit.

Honestly, this happens with just about every big release in Japan.
With the used market your sales are defined by the number of people who want to play your game at the same time at any given time.
Is anything Nintendo ever not doomed?

The only thing great about DQ8 were the graphics. Everything else was completely inferior to DQ7.
I can agree with that statement but the graphics were so bad in DQVII that it took me a while to overcome them and play the damn game.

Heh, everyone's lowballing Mario Kart predictions after Chris's post. It's really hard to say where it'll fall, Mario Kart never broke the bank in the first week, it's known as a long seller and not for up-front sales.

The Wii version did around 600k yeah but it had over twice the userbase of the 3DS when the game released, not to mention no real competition.

This. Second-hand market is pretty big in Japan and the bigger you are in terms of sales, the higher the amount of used copies in the stores. The price is an important factor to consider when judging these situations. There was also a chart with the best seller in the used market in Japan last year, it was something astonishing, I mean some games more than doubled their LTD with that!

It means that while 150k people bought the game new, overall, 300k people paid to play it
No, I know. But it's freaking surreal. Some copies of the game must've been resold three times for that to happen.
