Microsoft has Closed the Activision Blizzard King Deal

Regulators should be shut down when they can't do their jobs.

Here is snippet from the 'regulators'

Welp we already knew it but good to see that the regulators are about as daunting as wet tissue paper standing against the megacorps. The question now is what is exactly stopping the plucky underdog that is Microsoft from buying up the remaining publishers? They already got by far the biggest publisher after buying freaking Zenimax so everything else is a smaller affair.

I don't care about plastic boxes, but I do care about the health and well-being of a creative industry that has rapidly become a manufacturing pipeline for a small cabal of corporate entities whose only stake in this industry is to extract as much money as they possibly can from it.
Tbh I’m not really worried. The industry has been changing and evolving since forever, Commodore was a giant when I was young, Ocean, Psygnosis were huge publishers. Nothing of that exist today but I’m still gaming and games are still great. I think the industry will just keep on changing as always and the market will adapt. I don’t buy music CDs anymore but I listen to more music today than ever before through subs. I feel like the same thing will happen in gaming, already has in some ways. Dramatic longterm concequences always seems exaggerated to me.

All of these studios and still no games.
They have all been pretty recent to be fair. So we won’t see the fruits of any of this for a while yet. AAA games take a long time to make….. just ask your pals on Sonys devs teams what it’s like these days. What else are you getting from Sony that you know of besides Spider-Man two and yet another remake in TLoU franachise….. factions? What else? Speculation, trust and faith based on the past? Ok…

I understand where your sentiment is coming from but I still think it’s a lil tok early for commentary like “ all these studios and no games”. When they bought Bethesda they were still wrapping up two timed exclusives and working on starfield. Other studios have had delays probably due to change in scope…. Others had projects that got released because MS was too hands off ( redfall)

They only just bought ABK….. we’re you expecting a slew of exclusive announcements right after? These things were never gonna happen over night.

If you say so, generally journalists are supposed to appear impartial and unbiased...this is the kind of stuff I expect from console warriors.
I get that they should be unbiased, and I agree. That being said, the joke is kinda funny man. Maybe it's just supposed to be silly and fun? That's how I perceived it.

Mmmm, such delicious tears being wept I love it.

No tears, just disappointment...if Microsoft knew how to manage their studios and make them prosper then I wouldn't care, but look at every studio they have, all the game are garbage for the most part...Starfield was supposed to be this big stupendous game and already at this point I think most people are already like '...Meh'

It is one thing to take studios and grown them into something bigger and better, but Microsoft is just trying to buy their way to success which to me is just lazy

Didn't follow the entire thing, was the deal approved without any change or are there things that ms can't do with their new toy?

If cod comes to gamepass maybe I will play it for once 😂

Let the haters hate. We can see through their posts and see how much they’re really hurting. And we shouldn’t point and laugh at them either.

Instead we should all be celebrating.
Better not be too happy about it. I hear it’s not very “healthy.”

Two healthier alternatives:
  1. Begin doom-posting as if this acquisition finally marks the end of the gaming industry’s precious sanctity.
  2. Start gaslighting people for reacting positively. Try to lean into the mental health angle and consider using snarky GIFs and cutting 1-2 word replies to really drive the point home that you are displeased. Happiness is quite sad, after all.

It will also cause Activision revenue to plummet once they lose actual sales of COD to Gamepass monthly sub fees.

Those GP sub prices are about to sky rocket...

Xbox probably makes around 10% of Activision revenue. Mobile and PC are big hitters. Revenue isn't going to 'plummet', and it's possible the drop is partially covered by a full featured port on Switch 2, as well as MTX revenue.

We'll see.

Finally. Though I still think it's a shame they aren't making COD exclusive.
Hopefully they manage to get Blizzard back in shape, and maybe do some cool stuff with the Legacy IP they are getitng beyond just COD, Diablo, Overwatch and Warcraft.

I don't want them to make COD exclusive because I like full lobbies and sometimes turning off cross play while on Xbox you can sit awhile waiting to find a match

The bigger the player pool the better

True, keeping it multiplat is ultimately better for the players (just like Destiny 2 and Marathon).
I mostly just wanted them to make it exclusive because I personally don't care about it, and it might have made Sony panic a bit and make them come down from their high horse

Knowing microsoft by now it can go either way, they can release CoD on PS if they wanna keep the playerbase or whatever, and they can make CoD Xbox exclusive too if they want. It's all in Phil's hands rn to decide kinda. Either way personally I'm indifferent. If making CoD exclusive means the games are actually getting good I'm for it
