Does Optifine work with Gafland server? Would you all recommend installing it if I am looking for a general boost in minecraft performance?
Optifiine is client side so it has no conflicts with the server.

Is Optifinr actually out for 1.7 now?Optifiine is client side so it has no conflicts with the server.
Your current beacon doesn't have any powers - just decorative? I only know because I fell from the top to the bottom (bedrock) while having a look. Thats quite a long way down. Still I now know even feather falling IV has its limits
I'm remarkably hesitant to play Minecraft now that I'm running my OS on a small SSD with a large data drive to go with it... reason being, Minecraft writes and reads all its saves from %APPDATA%, and %APPDATA% always refers to the OS drive. Minecraft saves take up a fair bit of space, which, while I have ~100GB to play with overall (about 60 of which are free right now), is still something of a premium. I'm assuming Minecraft does a lot of constant reads and writes to those saves, too, which is something I'm not sure I wanna do on my SSD, where reads and writes are limited (I mean, the limit's presumably very high, but it's not a risk I really wanna take).
I mean, I kinda get why it saves where it does (because Minecraft was an in-browser game, first and foremost, when it first came out), I just wish I could change that.

I've been on NeoCraft before :VYou could try Neogaf's server we are a friendly bunch but if you just want to play "on your own" no one will disturb you or interact with you if you don't want them too. You just have to put up with the odd penis and pineapple joke now and again.
I think I might be taking a break from MC for a bit. Feel burned out.
Gafland-Sur-Mer is half complete, but I'd hate for it to remain a ruin, so if anybody wants to join in, please feel welcome. I have no precious plans, but here's what I had in mind:

The style is mediterranean europe, a mix of old and new.
PS: Whoever finished of the station interior and roof, nice one
I should have the castle grounds done tonight; I'll then be able to start working on the example streets & houses before setting up a small train/metro station both overground and in the nether and hopefully have Arkyoto open for people to build in by Friday!
do you have coords? if you're really 12k blocks away that'll be a long railway, even in the nether
Need to connect the North line I built into spawn at some point, just not sure how to do that.
Remember guys that you can now get on top of the nether now without cheating, so you could set up a rail system up there instead of going through the nether risking falling in a giant lava lake.

Ok AbsurdityCraft people, if any of you are paying attention to this thread, I need a show of hands for how many people want it to continue existing in its current form. I've been getting reports of increasing lag with more people doin more things on the server, and there's not really an easy way of dealing with that. I'm saying this now because I'm nearing the end of the current billing period on the server and while I love running this thing for people who do enjoy it, I'm thinking about taking it down, putting the world up for download for whomever wants to play it in singleplayer or lan or whatever, and then resurrecting the server in a slightly different form with a new world and significantly fewer mods . I have some unique ideas for how this future plan will work. Not just a smaller modpack but something a little more interesting.
Anyway, this is the juncture at which we currently stand!
You can get the coords by hovering the mouse on the Overviewer. The southernmost point of the track is at:
X -122
Z -560
Which is well within visible distance of the station north of spawn
Ok I should have enough rails to work that far and get one line connected and set up this weekMinsc (with the big walled off place?). The line goes right by there so that'd be handy. coords are not far north of spawn: X=-121, Z=-558
Connectivity Issues

We are experiencing issues with our Swedish machines, you may be experiencing lag or disconnection ingame but we are working to get this resolved as quickly as possible. We will update you with any further information we come across.
There are also connectivity issues with other machines in various locations. We are working to get these resolved as soon as we can.
You only really need to lay one line. Simultaneous travel in both directions will be so unlikely.
Stations with up and down platforms are nice though. Just split the track before the station and then rejoin it. You can implement that with T junctions.
Looks like we drew the short straw tonight. And I've almost finished the castle grounds too.. Apologies for this guys.
Sorry, I know nothing about rails. Is there a guide to constructing what you're talking bout?
This is the simple way that matches with the station mechanism we've been using so far:
Right-bound carts stop on the top, left-bound on the borttom, as you see it here.
I'm sure you could do a version with a switchable forward/reverse lever but that's really not important.
The chunks have to be loaded in order for them to update. By default, a server will keep a 10 chunk radius loaded around every player. So unless someone is in your area, it will pause when the chunk is saved and unloaded from memory until someone enters the area and loads the chunk again.cheers
I'm guessing smelting only continues if you're close to the furnace? Smelting a ton of sand in a single automated furnace so I'm guessing it'll take ages.

10 chunks is 160 blocks. So it's a 320x320 block square around each player.
As long as spawn is busy enough it'll usually be loaded in memory.ok. I'm working pretty close to where I'm smelting, but I think more than 160 blocks. How about spawn (my house and furnaces are in the spawn area)

Hey Crispy can I put up an enchantment table/anvil at your double spawner?
Spawn chunks are always loaded into server memory. As long as a player is logged on somehwere in the world, these chunks are always updated - food grows, water flows and redstone calculates.
If I've worked it out properly, the boundary of this area is as far West as the front wall of Whiskey's house, as far South as the Southern edge of the iron farm, as far East as the start of the tracks in the station, and as far North as about 1/2 way between Wooley's shop and the arboretum crossroads.
Madness. Madness I tell you.

How are you getting these overheads? Do you have to download the map somehow?
I was on the server when Ark was giving Mengy a link to the world file, which I downloaded and ran through Cartograph G.
The full map is available here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/5s14mz9jd7hfk7w/gafland-plan-2014-01-17.png (massive 26MB PNG file)
It's pretty far out of date now, so if Ark or Charlie fancies letting me have a new world file, I'll upload a refreshed overhead map.
his immoral and SOCIALIST blockade of my shop has turned me into a filthy commoner!
look at me now! i have no opulence!
