Modern Vintage Gamer: Four Days Later...Is the PS5 Pro REALLY worth $700?

This doesn't work like that. PSSR is not trained on specific games (like DLSS 1.0 was).

For sure there will be new versions of PSSR but games will have to be patched (most likely).
I agree, patched from developers of each game is needed. PSSR ML is like some one courting a girl but still not opening up her door. PSSR ML can't do its trick as long as developers have not sent a patch especially for frame rate. I think Sony and developers are aware of it, and in a few months will see more updates and upgrades to each game. The Ps5 pro life cycle will be constant improvement and adjustment by PSSR ML, but that will happen if developers will uncage there games, especially frame rate capped.

Probably would be a more enticing buy if there was a new game released with it that emphasized the differences better between it and the base PS5. The lack of drive and stand is also a kick in the balls though

Great effort. The defence has now moved to highlighting the shortcomings of a cheap entry level console that was designed for those who can't afford an expensive high powered console and it's ability to deliver a gaming experience but gimped due to its hardware choices for its price.

You are now trying to use this as a gotcha in defence of a PRI console that costs over double the price of a series s but at its current state shows similarities to that console in how it is delivering its experiences. As always you get all the likes from the guaranteed Sony crowd.

You guys can't take any genuine criticism of anything Sony.

Pathetic.

No, he is simply demonstrating that your criticism is agenda based and you have an entirely different take on "criticism" when it is directed at a Microsoft product. You've already admitted your criticism towards Sony is influenced by your "disdain for their most hardcore fans". There is a term for that. "console warrior"

I adored astro bot just was very upset by how they made horizon the last game ( I hate that franchise and couldn't believe they used that ad the pinnacle for Sony games over the last 30 years!) But anyway. All out of my system now still love that game and it's my second place game of the year.

Ps5 pro is actually really want it. Just not at the price it is. If it was 699 with everything included i would have 100% bit.

Just waiting for a sale. Yes I can exaggerate towards Sony when complaining sometimes due to my disdain for their most hardcore fans but you guys know this now and I am trying to be more detailed with my criticisms. It's not like I don't criticise other companies. I feel Sony has made a lot of slip ups this gen which level headed posters highlight too. Others just shout about how much they are winning by and they are so amazing and that concerns me as they literally accept anything out of pocket.

Stellar Blade, FF7 rebirth and Dragons Dogma 2 were very impressive. It is night and day in difference especially Stellar blade as per DF. As for new games, that will be next year the real showcase with Death Stranding 2, GTa6 , GOY, and Wolverine. And just wait for GT7 offering, they have not patched the game yet. Yes the lack of drive is frustrating, but it is what it is.

Bought one. Now, for some unknown fucking reason, I have to wait for the disc drive to turn up, in three weeks

Oh, so you are the one who decides that someone having an aversion to a companies ardent psychotic fans is a console warrior. I never knew you held that power.

Anyway, I'm just fudging around with the above. Don't want to argue with you.

The PRO is for the next Sony IPs exclusives, those games will use PRO at it Best.

The rest Will depend of each developer.

For current games is a case by case situation , for example Dying light 2 looks sharper, cleaner, Even the "120" FPS option looks better.

So is worth 700 bucks? For me yes if You Also have a 120 hz. VRR tv. And Will be a more worth spend once we get Sony's next games on 2025-2027

I started to take this for granted a while ago because it felt like there was almost a worldwide TV upgrade during covid. Imo, it was a necessary upgrade in 2020/2021. At this point it's even more so

Not really allowed to say much on that but he specifically mentioned the PS6
I only jumped on that because you always wrote that the PS5 Pro would be the best place to play for a year or two (in a nutshell). But yes, of course you can interpret that differently if you only relate it to the Playstation ecosystem.^^

Likely, if you are willing to wait 3-4 years while games keep coming out that will run best on the Pro
Basically, and that was the exact same argument with the PS4 Pro.

I didnt get the PS4 Pro and I probably wont get the PS5 Pro either. I can certainly see the benefit of both but due to me owning the base consoles I would rather spend that money on more games (I'm also saving up for a new car currently so that is another factor)

Seems the tl;dr that most are saying is that it's worth it if you game a lot. But if you're more casual and you're happy with the base PS5, it's a skip.

Sounds fine to me - the PS5 Pro is aimed at the hardcore gamer, not someone who turns it on to play games a couple of times a week.

A couple of times a week? Yall think that makes someone a casual gamer? WTF?!?!?!

I bought a sex doll, but I keep it inflated 100% of the time and use it like a regular wife
Worth it? I dunno, but guess we should wait until the generation ends before making those statements.

The hardware seems nice (price aside) but it also depends on devs making the most of it, be it via patching already released games or taking full adventage of the new hardware on the new releases.

At least the XOX/PS4 Pro had the decency to retail at the same price (4 years later even) as the consoles they improved upon.

No way is the PS5 pro worth it at £700. I wouldn’t imagine many kids will be getting that for Xmas.

And the 2TB XSX?

It's almost like there was a worldwide event that precipitated massive inflation and supply chain shakeups alongside the rise of AI absolutely flooding fabs with business that caused chip price increases. All of this means that shit no longer comes down in price quite like it used to. This idea that every generation will play out the same as previous generations is predicated on a worldview that absolutely baffles me. How the hell do people survive with such inflexible thinking?

The Pro actually does exactly what you describe here. No more needing to worry about fidelity or performance mode with the Pro. FF7 Rebirth is all the proof you need but there are plenty more games as well.

Does it though ? From what I've seen, the perf mode on the pro is rarely on par with the fidelity mode on the base ps5 and even on the pro, we have to make compromises. The difference is indeed huge in a few games like ff7, but it's more an exception than a rule.

These reviews are useless. PS5 Pro is dlow burn console, same as ps4 pro(it also launched with some 45 enchanced titles). Its gonna be a year or so until we get more games, running much better and looking much better when we see that gap increasing

Says the guy bringing up XOX and PS4 Pro? lol
Merely as a comparison of mid-gen refreshes that were slightly more worthy. Context relevant.

For clarification, I don’t think the PS5 Pro is worth £700. Pretty sure there will be lots of buyers remorse out there. I had it myself when I bought the XOX and realised I was just playing the same games at a slightly higher res or frame rate, but never both.

I have no buyers remorse but it was only like $500 for the console after my trade in. Didn't exactly empty my savings account for it.

Ps4 to PS4pro was worth it simply for the faster OS IMO. I didn't' even care about that games when I realized how much quicker the OS was. When I gifted it to my friend who's PS4 broke he couldn't believe how much faster the UI/OS was.

Higher priced consoles such as the 2TB XSX are also context relevant then.

That's the case for any high dollar purchase. I really don't have much buyer's remorse when it comes to improved consoles, but I've been saying for a while now that folks need to stop expecting massive upgrades with new hardware. The improvements will be more and more incremental.

Folks on the fence should probably just stick to what they have. Nothing wrong with that.

Good question. Most emulation is CPU bound, and the CPU is mostly the same in the Pro, so best case scenario would be you get a 3-6 fps boost, maybe less severe stutters.

Edit forgot to quote RagnarokIV RagnarokIV
