This is my first Ninja Gaiden game and it’s really cool. Currently stuck on the second boss.

Maybe it's my old ass reflexes or I just forgot how to fight these bosses, but the Hell version of the bosses with the mobs are kicking my butt. Takes more attempts to pass than I remember.
Then I realized that other than my OG Sword, none of the other weapons I'm using have been upgraded :(

Still the mobs and bosses hit harder than I remember. Almost done and considering either a OG NG2 run or an NG3 RE run. Going to save the NG2 Black Mentor run for after the patch
I recommend doing a clean mentor original NGII run and compare it with mentor NG2 black. You are going to appreciate the original much more when you compare both versions.

I'll be back when there's a mod that can keep the camera off the floor. Can't take it any more lol.
I find it funny that the camera kept getting lower in every sequel. By the time Ninja Gaiden 4 comes out the camera will be like...

If it really is just the Sigma game underneath, they'll have to patch that first.

I don't remember the OG NG2 having the camera being so buggy, although I've only really had an issue with the boss battles where I was stuck in a very upclose pov not able to rotate the camera to see the mobs/bosses.

Any tips for getting master ninja rank in chapter challenge? Do you have to kill every single enemy? I hear it also helps to not use your ninpo?

I know I never did this in the OG NG2, but just out of curiosity after a boss fight, I decided to aim the Bow and Arrow at a certain waifu and shot her with it thinking nothing would happen.
Instead I got a splash of blood on my screen and a death yell from her before a "Game Over" screen. Edit: Did it with the shurikens and that also will kill her :) Was this in the OG or Sigma versions? Or new to this version?

Didn't get any acheivement for it though :(

That happens in NGB as well so I assume it would.

Yo, I been going down the rabbit hole with Ninja Gaiden. Old interviews, playing the different versions and day dreaming lol. Tempted to get the OG NG2 on xbox. I do recall lots of fuck you moments in that version though.

NG4 reminds me of Metal Gear Revengence.

OG NG2 on XSX via BC is still the definitive version, plus, at 4K60Hz it's - basically - a free remaster.

Looked at my achievements and apparently I beat it on Warrior 6/27/2008...The upgrade, plus shit ton of enemies I'm going back in.

Its the best by far and it looks absolutely great on Series consoles. Gameplay is the best too. It does have somewhat longer load times though. Also get the mission mode, I think they still sell it.

2 Black feels kind of dull compared to it. Its not just the enemies, the stages feel more immersive too because of the little things like collecting orbs and having to open the dragon mouth by using the bow. Its very minor, but it breaks the action a small bit. In 2 Black and Sigma everything is simply open, you just advance everywhere.

Warrior ? YOU NOOOB !1!1 😁😁

Kidding aside mate, my last run on the X360 was on Mentor, that changed when I bought it again as to play it on my XSX back in 2021 where after 17 years I FINALLY managed to beat it on Master Ninja at the tender age of 42 😁

Needless to say, the difficulty on MN is absolutely bullshit, there's no real challenge since the game basically cheats and everything devolves into a "let's try as to not die every 10 seconds" gauntlet kind of thing.
Thank God you can basically spam/abuse the Lunar staff's 360 charged UT'cause otherwise...yeahhh.

The toughest parts on MN are the earlier ones where you haven't upgraded your health bar and weapon(s) yet with everything resulting in a 1-2 hit KO/death - that, and some of the late encounters like THAT fookin' triple Rensetsu fight in the Hayabusa village towards the later part part of the game where shit looks literally impossible and you have to carefully spam 360 lunar staff UTs and Ninpo.
The ninja graveyard field fight is also bullshit with fuxking wizards grabbing you outta nowhere taking 1 third of your health bar down.
Bosses are the easiest part I'd say since they don't change much from Mentor difficulty.

Man, I fucking love this game, I don't usually replay games but this, this...I've been playing it on and off for 17 years straight, no other action game can come close to the rush this one offers when shit gets into gear.

Truly one of the GOATs of gaming

PS: I still use the gamer profile picture that unlocks after beating it on MN 😁

I'm currently playing NG3 RE and there is a learning curve coming from NG2 because some systems are different.
There are some good changes, but I still find it inferior to the OG NG1 and 2. Although it does seem to have a deep combat system if you can forget your muscle memory that you built up for the other 2 games.

I am in Chapter 3 on Warrior, and this difficulty feels good in OG. Mentor and up went a bit overboard. Its still so fun, this sewer part, I think its desolate on Sigma2/black? You find the explosive shuriken here too, which are another thing I miss because they are cool to use and blow off limbs.

But anyway, I kicked a demon into the fan, and he didn't get gibbed or something but kept being stunlocked by it for minutes. I kept him there as It looked pretty dumb. I like that you have to destroy the fans also (which is some interactivity after all), and one is optional and leads to a treasure. I stopped at the test of valor save point. Levels are just that tiny bit more fun to navigate.

I have almost 30k for maxing out my first weapon. I have staff, claws and sword at level 2. UT activation feels faster and easier, and I like the bigger orbs that spawn.

Same here. Coming back even after 17 years. Maybe this is the best thing about black 2, that people start realizing how amazing OG NGII is.

For me there is just no other game like it. With NGII TM just went all in and the result is total craziness. No developer was ever able to come up with something even close.

On-landing BOW UT right in the face of a IS Ninja. This is a good as gaming gets.

Enjoyed it. Too easy on normal tho. I prefer the linear approach. I remember NG being somewhat confusing with the backtracking. Have to go and play NGB for real this time. Afterwards I want to do the original NG2. Never did get past NY. Curious to see the differences. Oh and Ryu is still one badass mofo. I miss these action heroes!

The combat in this game is so fucking good.

It's so deep (I'm amazed at how all the weapons feel unique with multiple movesets), the animations are superb, and just flows so well.

10/10 gameplay.

I really miss this era of action games. Instead we have slow, boring Soul clones.

Ninja Gaiden 4 better deliver.

I dont think Dark Souls gameplay and Ninja Gaiden gameplay are that different in terms of asking the player to build a spine, and persevere through failure (and so on). I usually dual wield katanas in Souls, so I dont think theyre slow at all. But I guess its different if you consider someone playing a tank build. They solve the problems at different speeds and by walking down separate paths of thinking. In the case of Sekiro, its almost like From were inspired by Ninja Gaiden when they created Sekiro, as both Ruy and Sekiro are shinobis. Serving masters that have taught them in different schools of combat.

But yeah this was a wild rush to play through, again. Its hard to start a new game after you have played something like this.

At first it felt like the graphic was worst than the original because it was so blurry but after chapter 4 it looks like an actually remake. I approve but why did they take away the best costumes!?!?!

New patch went up. Sounds good!

Additional Content:

  • New Game+
Added the ability to begin a new game on a difficulty level you have previously cleared with the weapons and Ninpo you obtained in your previous playthrough already unlocked. When starting a new game this way, your weapons and Ninpo will be reverted to level 1.
  • Photo Mode
Added Photo Mode to the in-game Options Menu. You can move the camera around within a set limit to take screenshots.
  • Ability to Hide Projectile Weapon
Added a "Show Projectile Weapon" option under "Game Settings" in the Options Menu, which allows you to hide your projectile weapon while it is carried on your back.

Adjustments:

  • Lowered the HP of enemies in Ch. 8, "City of the Fallen Goddess"
  • Lowered the HP of enemies in Ch. 11, "Night in the City of Water"
  • Raised the number of enemies in Ch. 13, "The Temple of Sacrifice"
  • Raised the number of enemies in Ch. 14, "A Tempered Gravestone"
  • Raised the damage dealt by some of Ayane's attacks.

Bug Fixes:

  • Fixed control issues that occurred when playing at over 120 FPS or while under high computing load.
  • Fixed an issue where controllers would not vibrate based on computing load or FPS settings.
  • Fixed bugs that caused the player to go out of bounds during certain chapters.
  • Fixed bugs that made it impossible to progress during certain chapters.
  • Fixed a bug which caused the game to crash during long play sessions.

Other minor bug fixes

Well they implemented some of the stuff I wanted in a previous post, you still can't buy items missed in the previous chapter from the store like NGII, which is a bummer. Although why didn't they lower the enemy health in Momiji's level too when her level also featured the inflated enemy health of Rachel and Ayane's levels?

It took over 15 years but they finally added that much requested show projectile toggle and Ayane damage buff.

Clipped the updated staircase and chapter 14 intro.

Unfortunately that's the only enemy changes. As you see in chapter 14 vid, after you reach the first save point it continues as is. :messenger_unamused: Hopefully they plan to keep doing more updates like this over the next year restoring more cut content, restoring more cut encounters,, and tweaking more fights to be more like the OG.

finally the dream come true!!!! NG2Black has become the definitive version of NG2 we all wanted :messenger_smiling_hearts: :messenger_smiling_hearts: :messenger_smiling_hearts: :messenger_smiling_hearts: :messenger_smiling_hearts: :messenger_smiling_hearts: :messenger_smiling_hearts:

Not really. Increasing enemies only in certain chapters doesn't make it the definitive version.

There are still missing costume and colors
They still forcing you to use health upgrades when you find them.
Still missing enemy count
Still missing Survival Mode
No Test of Valor

So yeah game is still weak sauce, better but still weak.

That would be great, but it would require a lot of work and I wonder if they are willing to spend more money on re-development and patches.

Of course, the best case outcome for NG fans would be to have both sigma 2 black and OG NGII black. In reality though we need to accept that TN believes that Sigma 2 is the better base version and all future patches will have Sigma 2 as base.

Oh yeah, tbh this is already more than I was expecting. Still nice knowing there is chance they would consider cleaning up a few other spots as well.

Thats not what TN believes, the source code for NG2 is lost.

Patch has good timing because I’m starting my Master Ninja run soon. Had to spend some time unlocking the Doppelganger and Demoness costumes for Ryu/Rachel but I am almost done.

It's a good start, but more work needs to be done to get it there. I'm very appreciative, but like the greedy bastard I am, I want moar moar moar!

Edit: I'm liking the New Game+ add onbecause I want to start the game with the Scythe chain weapon and get my Ninja Assassin freak on. I'm almost done with NG3 RE and it sucks that you get the weapon so late in the game.

The stair case of hell being back to its full glory is the best part of the update for me. It was good enough before, but now I can finally paste 20 Black Spider Ninjas in 3 seconds with my Tonfas, and watch as my Series X screams (quietly) in agony from having to render all of this UE5 shit lol.

As God intended!
