Official PS5 PRO Specs (Finally)

None of it matters.

It could be a supercomputer and people would still bitch and moan because of the sticker shock.

Rational breakdowns of component costs? Who cares. Comparisons with the price of equivalent PC hardware? Ok egghead.

None of that generates clicks like a disgruntled Youtube thumbnail does.

And all these guys will get pro. Its same shit as usual. Have people forgotten road to ps5 ans aeries x? Constant grifting about price, overheating, issues etc. This is same shit, once console is out, all this will go away

400W peak power draw, that's quite a lot for a console. Well good, I though there is some limitation (I know people were throwing 300W back in 2020) how much you can do with such device. Good to hear
I remember something similar. It's self regulated and this is the only thing I can find about it. It's more about whrn it's idle, has to shut down automatically when left, streaming and that sort of thing and not about peak power draw. PS5 base had a peak of 350W but is ~200W even when playing games. Still weird to try and regulate this on console and you have PCs drawing 300-400W just from the GPU alone.

Very interesting they added 2GB DDR5 possibly to free more GDDR6 for games, i wonder why Cerny didn't mention this
Unless its just the 2TB SSD ram buffer which i think might be
It's real RAM. I remember the MLID leak said something similar months ago.

I'm more interested in the 1.2GB extra RAM from "memory system efficiency".

Can somebody explain that? Is that a bandwith thing being converted into equivalent capacity or something? I don't understand it.
So this is added physical RAM? IGN and other outlets were reporting the same RAM as PS5 base.

I was surprised of the price it's retaling at here in SA.

It's still expensive but I was expecting over R20K but it's coming in at R19500

Just for comparison the regular ps5 (not slim, with disc drive) is about R15K.

Now I know what your thinking, that's about a 200-250$ difference it makes sense. The regular ps5 for us is like 800$... so relatively speaking the jump to the pro isn't so huge.

Also compare it to an IPhone 16 which is R21K... fucking ridiculous product 🤣

Doesn't matter since all of them ended up getting one anyway.

If it’s 4nm why does it need a nearly 400W power supply?
"Thanks to MIFCOM, I was able to get a PlayStation 5 (PS5) power supply, to check out its quality. Delta Electronics produces this PSU, and its model number is ADP-400DR. Without even a standby rail, it is a single-rail unit outputting +12 V only. According to Delta, its maximum power output is 372 W".

You want to use a higher maximum power rating for efficiency reasons. So the power supply is actually further evidence that power draw has not increased massively.

Come on, dude. PS5 Standard is $550. Does anyone really think that the $80 difference of the disc drive is equivalent to the bigger GPU, WiFi-7 chip, RDNA 4 ray-tracing, ML hardware, PSSR tech, etc.?

Let's be realistic.
In Europe PS5 DE is 400 Euro, PS5 Pro is 800 Euro. 100% more money, but not 100% more power.
But besides that it's exhausting to talk about the price over and over again. It's a premium product at a premium price for enthusiasts and not for casuals with their FHD or HD ready tvs.
Most buyers will be happy with their PS5 DE and they 100% got the best bang for their bucks. Most buyers will be happy with their PS5 Pro and they 100% got the most powerful console.

$699 is absolutely a lot of money, but PS5 Pro still literally is the cheapest device for high-end gaming.
Let's not exaggerate. It's an upper middle class device.

De is 450euro msrp and 550 euro
This is 21 % tax included. So lets compare apple with apples. Still makes it fuck expensive tough

I'd say his definition is kind of acceptable for a device that lets you play some current gen games at 8K@60fps or 4K RT GI + RT AO + RT reflections both transparency or opaque at rock solid 60fps, and current gen free roams with max quality RT reflections + RT AO + RT shadows at rock solid framerate, even if just 30 or 40fps, and rock solid 60fps with RT reflections only at 4K.

Unless we only consider high-end gaming something along the lines of path tracing in Cyberpunk at somewhat playable framerate with AI upscaling pushed to the max.

Agreed.

It's giving 4K 60, and even has 8K modes. That absolutely qualifies as a high-end gaming device.

Otherwise, if that's middle-class, then there would be another set of widely-available consumer devices that does more than 4K 60 and 8K at this price point, and there's simply not.

Nice to see the official specs released, defo going to look/run better than base ps5.

Although not sure anyone who buys is going to convince anyone but themselves that it's a huge difference and worth the upgrade.

Most casuals and family/friends who see it in action won't think its anything different even with you saying "look that building has more clarity, or that puddle looks so much better,it looks so real.

In my book high end means the best currently availabale hardware, so 4090 builds with better CPUs than Zen2. But we do not have to fight over this one. For you it's high end, for me it's not.

It's clearly a higher end device, but cost is kinda irrelevant in turns of high end or not. The more expensive is usually the higher end by design

Premium product?

60% increase in power, same old CPU, missing features.. still relying in 30 fps modes to give you the best experience.. all this 4 years later and at double the price of the base console!! (In Europe)

This machine is in no man’s land.. the casuals will completely ignore it and the hard core who care for specs and best experiences will still look at it as an half assed effort from Sony but being asked to pay premium price..

Of course a lot of people will still buy it and enjoy it for sure.. but in the mid long run I think it will tank hard if they don’t revise the price, specially in Europe..

Remembeer this time around you don't have a performance race between CPU/GPU, we might end up seeing a difference of 12-15% when compared to base PS5

Ok but I really want to know what node the Pro's chip is being fabricated on? I know a few people suggested N4

EDIT : Oh shit, just seen Keplar_L2 tweet, N4 it is!

Well it's just that, ~60% more power + PSSR + 2GB RAM + 1TB SSD, for 75% more price than the digital PS5. I think it is coherent.

Why do people behave like they don't know about discounts, which come sooner or later?
The launch price is not lifelong!

Not necessarily. GDDR isn’t that well suited as a memory for system in part due to its much higher latency. It works for consoles due to the much lighter OS. What this could mean is that the PS5 has an extra 2GB of VRAM for the games because now, 2GB of DDR is used for the OS. Instead of 12.5GB available for games, it’ll have 14.5GB. I vaguely recall such a figure during the leaks and we were all wondering where it was coming from since the Pro and regular PS5 both have 16GB of GDDR6.

The 2GB is indeed for the OS, but it translates to a 13.7GB usable for games, up from the 12.5GB the base PS5 has. These figures were from the DF leak, and are straight from the developer portal.

Yep, it was said many moths ago:

Single issue FP32

XSS 4TF
PS5 10.3TF
XSX 12.2TF
4070 16.2TF at gaming clocks (2750mhz)
PS5 Pro 16.7TF at 2175mhz
4070 Super 19.7TF at gaming clocks (2750mhz)
4080 Super 28.2TF
4090 45TF

Bonus GB202 192SM (Rumored Blackwell top full chip) at 2750mhz = 67.6TF

Nvidia flops are more efficient. 7700XT is 17.6TF and still slower than that 16.2TF 4070 in raster:

Even more confirmation that TF can't be compared between architectures.

Like Sony servers would let you download at that speed...

LOL

My PS5 downloads at 1Gb/s from Sony servers, even in game - I could probably do more if not limited.

PS5 Pro threads sure are entertaining with all the insecure PC fanboys.

Nothing like eating breakfast and reading all there salty post you would think Sony came to there house and stole there precious PCs. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Insecure console fanboys you mean.
