Nintendo is done. they need Switch 2 this year since Switch 1 has no new games and the hardware is 10 year old

The only reason I can think of for this is to have more games at the ready. We know they had games locked and loaded sometimes years before release, could be they are doing the same thing here.

They just upped their hardware forecast by 0.5m while sony dropped it down by 4m, and it might not even hit that. Could be Nintendo is thinking they can do another 12m then launch.

However, I really really really want a new console. Not because of better GFXOMG60FPSRT but because of the new games, it's clear we'll get mid tier shit and ports until then.

First Xbox, then Playstation, now Nintendo. What's next, china acquiring Steam and geo blocking it from the rest of the world.

This is not about eeking out another year. Nintendo's top priority is a massively successful Switch 2. They've never been able to achieve the 1-2 punch of the PS1 and PS2 that is still carrying Sony to this day. Any delay will be in order to improve the chances of another runaway success for their next platform and successfully transition their huge audience to it. It's not about winning some arbitrary console war metric.
Pushing the successor into next year isn't going to improve its chances for success. The market is very obviously ready for Switch 2 now.

I don't believe there is a higher priority for Nintendo than guaranteeing the success of Switch 2. Why else would they delay it? Nothing is more important to them.
I didn't say there was a higher priority. But by your logic, why not stretch it to 2026 then? Pushing it another two years will improve their chances over pushing it another year based on what you're saying. What tangibly are they going to use 2024 for to 'improve chances', when momentum/demand for Switch 2 is clearly in the here and now for anyone remotely following the market?

No, that's not what I'm saying. I'm saying that if the delay is true Nintendo must believe march 2025 is better than September 2024. I don't know why they believe that but speculated that it could be related to wanting more software and services ready for launch, or to manufacturing and supply issues. I agree with you that consumers seem ready to purchase it in large numbers this year, which is why the delay is curious because I'm sure Nintendo are reading the market just like we are.

I’m ok with this, if they release Wind Waker / Twilight Princess this year for the Switch, secure OLED screens for the Switch 2, and release this, this holiday season:

After posting that last comment I had the thought that putting another year into finalizing launch software and ensuring plenty of stock would be a valid reason. They also could be looking at the current sales of the Switch and figuring while they're in decline, they haven't outright cratered and is reducing the pressure for a 2024 release. That's moreso what I meant about eeking out another year, not expressly in response to what Sony/MS is doing as far as 'console wars' as Nintendo very clearly is running its own race.

Sounds like we are in complete agreement then. My bad for misunderstanding.

I need to replace a Switch I gave away. I was hoping for a BC Switch 2 this year. Now I have to decide if I should go ahead and get another Switch now or wait it out.

Nothing is delayed without being announced.
Right. If a company has internally planned and scheduled to release a product but then decides to DELAY it to a later date, but they never say anything publicly, it's not actually a "delay." In that type of a situation you would call it... um.... something else I guess???

Haven't you heard? Switch is getting Xbox games this year. Those are guaranteed system sellers. Microsoft is single handedly saving Nintendo.
Could be just pentiment coming to switch.

One reliable insider on era claimed hifi rush was allegedly scrapped for switch.

And if that's due to technical reasons, could very well be grounded and sea of thieves aren't being considered for switch for the same reason.

I am talking about 2024. What major releases this year?
Lol it's February and they haven't had a direct yet. They've also just released the new Mario and DK game and are promoting the new Princess Peach title. Even if they aren't hardcore enough for someone like yourself, they are still releasing games that they likely consider major.

How can switch 2 be delayed, when it has not been announced yet 😂 more bogus rumours, only Nintendo knows when it’s coming out. End of

I was being highly tongue in cheek.

Third Parties won't have their games ready.....

I suspect third parties are telling Nintendo they need more time to get their games/ports ready after some internal polling/"how's your project coming along?" inquiry.
Nintendo doesn’t need third parties.

I would be shocked to see Nintendo go through Christmas 2024 without a new Switch... only thing I can think of is Switch Lite OLED and some surprise remakes.
