Rumor: Switch 2 Reportedly Delayed to 2025

It's funny dude, just yesterday I was thinking that they would just do a full 8 year lifecycle and launch it in March. I should start posting each one of my thoughts, I have insider potential. :messenger_grinning_sweat:
So basically by the time this thing launches, it will already be running on outdated tech by 5-6 years and 2 years after its release the PS6 will make it look like a PS3 by comparison?

Nintendo truly has given up on being anywhere near current technology...😮‍💨

If they need to delay it, so be it things are pretty unstable right now and if Nintendo aren't feeling confident to launch the new console, be because they want to produce more units, or need more time to work on the software,or some unexpected problem, thats their decision.

I think what most fans want is for Nintendo to show anything, just to keep them busy speculating on the internet.i don't care if Switch 2 launches on November or early next year.

Upspecced version incoming confirmed.

Probably got wind of Xbox and PS plans and realised they needed a further spec boost to secure its medium term relevance.
They are using tech they spec'd for this thing back in 2020. It's going to already be grossly outdated a year after release.

So PS5 will basically be alone during the entire year in a time Switch is decreasing a lot YOY and xbox is not even a competition.
During this same year PS5 will start to get Xbox games and PS5 Pro will be released to no competition later this year…right before next year when GTAVI is released (let’s face it, almost as a PS5 exclusive) and right before the fiscal year that PS studios will start firing in all cylinders (2025).

Sounds like the perfect storm for Sony honestly.

Bad for me because I actually wanted a Nintendo console and the first one since Gamecube

It's an additional device that plays the same games as the PS5, just like the upcoming Pro. if the games could scale down well enough. (Which i doubt)

There's nothing nonsensial about that. That's probably what Sony is looking at
They just released the Portal. There's a limit to how many pieces of hardware they can release. R&D + manufacturing + shipping+ marketing on those is a huge investment, bigger than AAA games.

Considering we don't know what's going on you truly don't know squat diddly. Since Switch hit the tech sweet spot (2 year old mobile tech) it would be truly silly if they used 5 year old tech and it is truly preposterous of you to propose it.

Truly.

Dont think nintendo has any will to fool around with development costs for ps5 pro type of hardware.. or diminishing profits in selling expensive hardware....

After you find a way to earn very big doing more simple things... is hard to persue another way..... imho

It's not the hardware itself that costs so much to create, especially if you sell at a premium, it is the software development.

They don't need to drastically increase their software dev costs, they just need more 3rd party games

How so? They were clearly planning on releasing new hardware for 2020 but Covid happened so the pivoted to just using an OLED screen. Nintendo is cheap af and if anything they would purposefully wait for the tech to get even cheaper over the years to cut down on manufacturing costs. Nintendo has had no problem putting out weak(er) consoles and Switch only proved they can succeed with it.

Don't expect Nintendo to actually use current, i.e. expensive tech. They're most likely using the same shit they were going to use after the Switch Pro was to be released... back in 2020.

I mean, I've been saying early 2025 for ages anyway but

Literally fucking who?
It's been corroborated by the guy who correctly predicted that his Starfield on playstation prediction was wrong.

The only way this work if the handheld ran PS4/PS5 games natively. If the ask is for devs to downconvert existing games through patching, it’s Joever.

Nintendo acting as if they don't create cartoon games...and ports of cartoon games. What possibly could be the hold up?

Honestly I thought about this and it doesn’t really matter. Kind of more excited to see what Ally 2 and Legion Go 2 will bring.

I am fine waiting till March 2025, the biggest downside will be the hardware already outdated like crazy by release.

It's a problem imo. This thing is nearly going to be 2 generations behind.

Don't expect any better 3rd party AAA support than Switch OG had...
Their main target audience are children and families, so they won't care as long as there are games like Mario Kart, Animal Crossing, etc.

It's a combination of them being afraid of breaking the succession curse (they haven't had a successful console succession in over a decade) and them not being pressured to launch as long as hardware sales are still strong in Japan and Sony/Xbox are not blowing them out of the water.

I have no idea how they expect to keep up hardware sales by June/July with just Gamecube ports and filler games like Princess Peach

Nintendo still can't have a good final year for any of their consoles, with the sole exception being 2004 for GBA.

You made a nonsensical generalized statement backed by wishful thinking and I replied with a hyperbolic and sarcastic remark to bring you down to earth. That's all it was. Look at what the new head of SIE is saying in recent threads. He is unhappy with Playstation's return on investment. He's not about to approve a second piece of hardware, with all the costs that would entail. Actually a third piece, including PSVR2.

Or in other words, you were ridiculous, got called out, doubled down, got called out again, asked to back up your statements with facts, and decided to give up the game.

Totoki is looking for growth opportunities. A handheld that plays the exact same games as a console without a ton of expense for development costs IS return on investment. The hardware sells for a profit or near profit and you sell more software. It's a no-brainer in today's scalable high cost environment.

Write yourself a break down on why the PSP was successful, why the Vita was not successful, and why the Switch has been successful and it becomes pretty clear that Sony would be wise to venture into that area.

I mean if we got some better price for releasing old specs in 2025 it might be not be so bad but Nintendo could still price this at $400...

oh man does this suck... ok it gives me extra money time to put some pennies in the penny bank but I have to cry in mourning of the "Switch 2024" I guess I'll just hold out for the hypothetical "Switch 2025" :(

Where is this magical piece of hardware that plays PS5 games in a portable form factor while also selling at a profit for under $500?

If it's so easy to create, why did Sony bother releasing the Portal?

You're talking out of your ass.

Are these the same leakers that said we were having a direct last week or week before, like out no one knows anything Nintendo doing, can’t wait for all these leakers to be wrong again if nintendo announces switch 2 next month and then release oct-nov this yr.
cant see Nintendo delaying due to anything Sony or microsoft has said, with Sony and microsoft not got out decent coming out this yr it would be in Nintendo interest to get a console out with new games

You're talking out of your ass.

What's this magical piece of hardware in a console factor that isn't sold for a massive loss but is more powerful than the PS4 Pro... wait it was the PS5.

Why did Sony release the portal? Well, it's been in development for years, that's why. Why is it called Project Q-Lite? Could there be a Project Q? Why didn't they release the Portal in 2020 when the PS5 launched if it was so easy to create? All evidence suggests the Portal has been in development since 2015... two years before the Switch came out...

It's possible that the Portal was initially going to be another PS Handheld, but they gutted it in favor of remote play and potentially cloud play because they didn't want to keep making handheld specific games.

The argument that something hasn't happened yet means it won't happen, is a fallacy.

Argumentum ad Ignorantiam look it up.

The Steam Deck can play PS5 level games at a lower resolution and frame rate. It's two years old. What magic is Sony working with AMD on in the background? I don't know, but it's not impractical to suggest that they create a lower spec level PS5 handheld with similar architecture.

It's like saying the Series S couldn't exist and the PS5 handheld doesn't even need to be as powerful as a Series S and the Series S came out 3+ years ago.

How much is the Switch 2 going to be and how powerful will it be in comparison to the PS5? For 100 dollars more than that, you don't think Sony could get closer to the PS5?

Here's the part you don't understand: of course a device that converges a handheld and console is an attractive proposition, this was proven by the Switch almost instantly, close to seven years ago.

But Nintendo also realized that to make such a thing happen, additional conditions had to be met: release schedules needed to improve significantly, and power needed to be restricted so that the form factors could converge without breaking the bank or defying physics.

This is something they've understood for close to twenty years now, and they've been realigning themselves in this direction ever since. Their philosophy of less power consumption and smaller form factor for their home consoles goes all the way back to the Wii. Simultaneously, they upped the power of their handhelds (GBA to DS to 3DS) until the two could meet each other, which is what the Switch is.

Sony and Microsoft, meanwhile, continued to chase power for their consoles, which means they cannot quickly transition to a portable form factor with equivalent performance. The best Sony could do was release the portal, which is a Wii U half step. Microsoft released the Series S which was also a half-step.

These could potentially set the stage for a converging platform in the next generation (PS6 and the next Xbox), but only if Sony and MS agree to not chase raw power for those systems. Which they just stated this week is exactly what they intend to do.
So either they'll be left supporting two non-equivalent form factors, which means spending more development resources, or the they'll aim for the lowest common denominator of the two, which is what Microsoft has been doing with Series S and X, resulting in cries from gamers that the Series S is holding back graphics on Xbox.

You can't have it all.

Haven't Nintendo increased their Hardware forecast for the year whilst Sony has reduced theirs a few weeks later?

They can 'exploit' the 6 million console advantage in their forecasts but they're not following it up with the software so any sales momentum will need to come from existing exclusives or 3rd party.

Question is what purpose does a delay serve? Is it so more software and services are ready for launch? Is it so the hardware can be manufactured on a smaller node? Is there some shortage of components that justifies a delay?
Likely launch slate + choosing right time to launch.
