I have had the Apple TV since launch, It is one of the few streaming services I have.

Severance, Ted Lasso, Shrinking (Ted Lasso and Shrinking are Bill Lawerence ie Scrubs)

Silo, Slow Horses (Best Show), Disclaimer, Tetris, See (poor man’s GoT, 1st season is worst).

Honestly, they have more than any other platform of “Watchable tv”. It reminds me of NBC in the 1990’s. Not offensive and it is “fine”. Apple TV is missing its champion tv show to bring it more attention. Apple TV is lacking a Sopranos, Breaking Bad, Yellowstone, Friends, Frasier, Seinfeld, GoT. Apple has not found that yet.

I'd add Black Bird and Tehran to that list.

Black Bird has an absolutely terrific performance by Paul Walter Hauser as a serial killer that landed him a Critic's Choice, Golden Globe and Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor. This show could have been a spinoff of David Fincher's terrific Mindhunter tv series.

Tehran has a unique setting: a spy show about an Israeli female spy who gets trapped in Iran after a failed mission. The show was filmed in Greece but it feels authentic because the Iranian characters are played by Iranian actors. Season 2 had Glenn Close, season 3 will have Hugh Laurie in a main role.

So I just watched Black Bird because it was mentioned here and the trailer looked interesting enough.

Well, it's a pretty decent show for 5 of the 6 episodes. I was gonna say solid 7/10, maybe even 8. Then the final episode happened... and now I wanna say it's like a 4 or something. It's comical how stupid some of it is.

Let's start with the credits. Jimmys story ends with him somehow going from convict to being a "successful businessman" and helping the FBI in catching serial killers???? because of his profound experience? I know this sounds like a nitpick, but it's connecting to a larger point.

In the final episode he suddenly cares SO MUCH about the dead girls and their families. And when he's being put into solitary he goes INSTANTLY INSANE for some reason? Like it's depicted as this hellhole, when in reality, he's in fucking safety there from being shacked by the italians or the mexicans with the face tattoos.

Yeah yeah, he's worried he'll forget the map and that pressure drives him to insanity, sure. It's totally not drummed up for drama so we can see our fuckboy hero being all vulnerable and selfless.

And obviously Larry is just there in his woodworking shop (completely unsupervised all the time btw, with knives and shit. No worries) drawing a map of where he buried the girls? ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

And also, yeah, psychiatrist is on vacation lmao. ON VACATION.

They had the chance to go somewhere with this story. Like Jimmy is clearly criminal scum. He was with Larry for one reason: To get himself out of there. And I guess you could've shoehorned in some storyline in there about why he suddenly would personally give a rat's ass about the girls, but no. From one episode to the next he simply does and you're supposed to accept it.

The show feels like a cheap attempt to pander to true crime obsessed nutty women, and thus our sexy protagonist had to get a good ending (and a lot of shots of his muscles). This was somewhat obvious from episode 1 onwards, but the finale episode just turned it to a 100. I cringed so hard at the scenes in the last episode where the judge was all "at first you reeked of entitlement. But now you're such a great guy and such a hero!" and the stewardess goes like "awww you're such a bad boy". WHO WRITES THIS SHIT. It's even funnier when juxtaposing it against the judge who rules on Larry and says something like (and this is almost verbatim) "Go back to the place you belong to!!".

I'm honestly kind of in shock about how bad all of that was. If you haven't seen the show, I implore you to go ahead and read my spoiler anyway, because I might've just saved you some time. It's not like the story is going anywhere were you wouldn't expect it to go. Allthough actually, it's so bland I didn't think they'd play it like that because it feels like a 90s soap opera or something. Or, to give another comparison: It's like if in Harry Potter the final scene would be about Snape launching a nuke at hogwarts and having Harry Potter shirtless fending it off with his bare hands.... and then he became a successful businessman! That, at least, you wouldn't see coming I guess.

inb4 "based on a true story, that's just how things happened", lmao sure

Neighbours from Hell
I’ve been trying to watch The Night Agent. I never finished season 1 I only saw a few episodes back when it first came out and I can’t get over that one Asian character Diane Farr has fully grey hair when she looks like she’s 35. It looks absolutely ridiculous. I mean the show is a mindless cliched thriller, so that’s dumb in and of itself, but it’s relatively entertaining though it’s nothing special. But every time I see that character it takes me out of the show.
