Xbox One Preview Members get early access to the Halo 5: Guardians Multiplayer Beta

When did you test out MCC then?

It's unfair on owners of the MCC, there's no other way about it. We paid money to get access to it, you get it EARLY FOR FREE.

I bought MCC day 1 sooooooo

It's not unfair. At all. Everybody knew when the beta would come out. Preview members, who are meant to test features on Xbox Live, are going to make sure this beta is actually functional for the actual release.

I think it's funny that some MCC owners are equating a few people getting access to a 2 day limited content beta without having the game with having access to the FULL content beta for 3 WEEKS.

Seriously. The entitlement ITT is ridiculous. Get over it. Its basically a three day server stress test. You have three weeks to play it.

It took them weeks to get MCC even remotely playable, what do you people think they will be able to fix in 3 days outside of a stress test on the servers.

This is not the same as people receiving os updates early in the preview program. I payed tor this beta along with MCC. Now if Microsoft charged for each monthly update to the OS, then gave the OS update away for free and early to people while I already payed for the update then it would be the same.

They could of done a random selection of owners of the MCC instead of the preview program and that would of been suitable.

That's besides the point, it's three days to the beta that was advertised with the game purchased. If anything, all MCC owners should get into the Beta as well.

Especially if this is a "stress test" more players would mean a bigger load on the beta servers.

Excited commentary in the thread sort of betrays the need to stand up and against and hold 343i and their contracted companies accountable for the poor product they just released.

It's just as they say: gamers really do have short-term memories. And those bad memories betray your long-term interests for the shortest of short-term gains.

Fairly disappointed. But carry on as you see fit, ladies and gentlemen.

Haha, if this beta is broken, it won't be working when MCC owners get it too. Just look at the MCC itself, still broken after a month.

Kind of a slap in the face to MCC owners that preview members will play this first.

I don't see why they couldn't have acess for preview members and MCC owners start on the same day and just cut off preview member access after 3 days.

Why are they getting it early, again?

Oh come on. A slap in the face? This is likely being done as a small-scale server test before the full beta goes out. Makes sense to use preview members. Would you say you're "concerned?"

I'd have given my code away if it wasn't for this

Any attempt to sell, give away, or trade these tokens will have consequences, up to and including removal from the Preview program and exclusion from future participation.

they should have tested the beta a month ago.
You're assuming they didn't already with a smaller group. This could be part of a staged rollout to ensure it handles the load as it scales up.

A lot of MCC owners/former owners (me included) think it should have been given more time to bake.

Imagine if they pushed out h5 beta to all mcc owners and *that* didn't work. It would be carnage.

So you roll it out to a decent size set of test users who have have explicitly opted in and said "give me stuff that might not work" to get their metrics first.

I mean, where do we draw the line? Testing at scale is hard, just look at DC and MCC.

You know what will happen? this weekend goes well, matchmaking works just about and people have fun.

Then comes the big wave of MCC users later this month, things set on fire and burn things to the ground, the beta fails to work smoothly for two weeks.

I can see it happening.

If I had MCC still I'd be pissed too. Other people getting in on the one working product the game might have, meanwhile still no word on what the supposed compensation MCC owners are supposed to get is.

Got my message a few minutes ago, looking forward to giving it a try.

I know the preview has had some issues and I'm not ignorant to them but I can't really think of why anyone wouldn't want to be in the preview anyway (outside of internet restrictions)

Unless you post the code publicly or have ur XBL tag on ur GAF profile. I don't think they would take the time to find you.

When the codes are redeemed elsewhere, I suspect it will flag to them immediately that its not been redeemed by the allocated person. I doubt its all that difficult for them to work it out.

The age difference in this quote is also appropriate. The fans of the gameplay in Halo CE and Halo 2 are irrelevant these days. Gotta make room for all them kids that still live with their parents that are into XTREME Doritos and E-sports!

I'm not saying that I have anything against a younger generation who may have grown up playing 360 games, because a lot of them didn't like Halo 4 either.

The point is, E-Sports, fast gameplay, jet packs, sounds exactly like what an out of touch executive and advertising team thinks that "the kids these days want."

So you're hating on the game you haven't played, and upset that you aren't playing it, insulting people and shitting up this thread. The recall thread is enough room to trash the game I would think.

oh no

I can see this exact thing happening too. MCC users will be haunted by the game for years.

I'm surprised more people aren't pissed about this. I kind of am. Is this how they reward those who've put up with 343i's shit?

It has more to do with the fact that they get it 10 days early...
I don't even have the MCC and I'm somewhat pissed about the idea.

My perspective is this;
I have FF Type-0 HD pre-ordered, and in part do not mind paying full retail for it on the assurance that I'll be the first to get my hands on what is hopefully a sweet, tasty FFXV demo that, not only just comes with Type-0, but is only 100% assured to people who pre-order.
Let's say that a week before the game shipped, Square-Enix said "as a thanks to people who have officially registered next-generation games with us ((actual selection criteria not important)) we're going to mail out codes to download the FFXV demo episode starting tomorrow!". I would be pissed. There, like the MCC, there's a price premium and willingness to have your consumer experience potentially be horrible for "dat feel of exclusivity" and first access. People are willing to put their money down because what they think they're getting is going to be special and/or exclusive.

Or simply turn down the number of active servers for a stress test.
Or let us have a full sized stress test akin to this in the Destiny beta's last hours where Bungie started having fun with the servers. MCC owners are already used to not having a working a multi-player, breaking a small scale sample to the beta wouldn't hurt them any further.

Possibly.

Its a 2 day test, we don't get access to it for the whole 10 days and the preview program is named as such for a reason... to preview stuff before its ready. The selection criteria is also an important part of it, its not been given to random people, its people that signed up to try stuff early and its not particularly exclusive if you get someone to invite you.

You're fundamentally missing the point: A WORKING Halo 5 beta is part of the mcc package.

In order to ensure you get that, the beta itself has to be properly tested.

The most appropriate pool of testers MS has access to is the preview programme folks, all of whom are happy to risk getting a NON WORKING piece of software in order to improve quality for others. Such as the upcoming MCC owners who expect a working product.

Personally I think this is pretty shitty.

You have customers who paid for a game with a promise of beta access, a game that even a month later doesn't work as it should and you prioritise your unpaid beta testers over them.

The details of when the beta wold be available for MCC owners as been out for weeks. You knew it would be avaiable on Dec 29. Just because it is being tested early to people who deal with unstable dashboards its unfair?

Maybe slap in the face is a bit hyperbolic.

Just doesn't seem right given everything that's transpired with the MCC problems. I would have thought those folks would be first in the door.

For the record I don't really have any personal interest in it as I bought the collection for the SP campaigns. Will try the H5 beta out of curiousity. But I think people who are upset about it have a case.

I got a message aswell... I dont think everybody in the preview program is being invited to the beta, as it stated, it for a small portion for "valued" members.

They're not prioritizing anything. It's a completely different offering. This is like complaining that some famous competitive players got their first hands on the beta before MCC buyers

I'm shocked you feel this way. I would think you'd want some small-scale matchmaking tests done in advance considering MCC's short history.

I'm pissed that there are some press out there that have already played it.

They had the opportunity to join the preview like the rest of us.

Perhaps it is to get people hooked on H5 enough so that they go out and buy MCC for the 3-week beta access.

Plus, most closed betas nowadays seem to go open at some point or another anyway. It's to be expected.
