well i meant that sengoku just got replaced by gundam or hokuto no ken musou

No, they're different series which appeal to different audiences. There is no "replacement" at all. There's Shin Sangoku Musou (Romance of the Three Kingdoms, set in China), Sengoku Musou (Japanese feudal era, set in Japan), Musou Orochi (crossover between Shin Sangoku and Sengoku, features characters from both series), Gundam Musou (Gundam crossover universe, published by Bandai Namco), and Hokuto Musou (Fist of the North Star game, aimed at much older fans, much more violence).

Totally different series for different types of audiences. The core gameplay is similar in the sense that they're all in the same genre and they're all by Omega Force, but beyond that the story, setting, characters, specific gameplay systems, level design, etc are all totally different. There were new installments of Shin Sangoku Musou, Sengoku Musou, Musou Orochi, and Gundam Musou very close together too, so there's no way that they have replaced each other in any way. The sales between the different series are pretty different too.

Speaking of Koei, where the fuck are the Musous? Last one was Hokuto just before fiscal year ended for some needed make-up.

Then nothing. Nothing on the horizon other than the western vaporware Troy Musou.
Shin Sangoku Musou 5 Xtreme Legends? Shin Sangoku Musou 6? Sengoku Musou 3 Special? Sengoku Musou 3 Empires? Warriors Orochi 3? Gundam Musou 3? Hokuto Musou 2?

I don't know whats more surprising, that nearly 5 months in the fiscal year there has been 0 musou and there are 0 announced, or that Koei hasn't announced bankruptcy yet given that.

I guess they're still riding high on good Hokutou Musou sales, though yeah they need to announce something asap. I think a new Orochi could be next, Z has had very good word of mouth and still costs 5000Y+ second hand, a sequel should do quite well.

is Obon week becoming more like a normal week or this year was a special case.? this year its half of 2007 units.. n 33% less software than 2007..

Basara succeeded because:

A. The game is much better than Sengoku Musou.
B. The Anime is popular.
C. The Merchandising is popular.
4. Basically Capcom built a multimedia property out of a game and succeeded whereas Koei just put out sequels.

I don't think the U.S. looks so untouchable.
It's important to note, that as far as Nintendo is concerned, DS sales have dropped the most this year (relatively) in the US.
Hardware sales in their Q4 2010 compared to their Q4 2009, so it's definitely slowed down drastically since its great 2009 (calender year).
Software's still strongest in the US though.

But either way, as GBA has shown, Nintendo probably wouldn't want to miss out on the crucial holiday season in the US just because their previous system is doing alright.
As GBA has also shown, the US is far more likely to support both systems anyway.

Mainly because Wii and DS are dropping off now.

The console life cycle is maturing. Plus, the Wii/DS are no longer as sought-after as they were 2 - 3 years ago. Add that to the fact that there aren't really any massive titles at the moment and you've got an explanation.

Things will be back up next year, hopefully in time for the busy Easter period.

Sangoku Musou, Shin Sangoku Musou -> Dynasty Warriors
Sangoku Shi -> Romance of the Three Kingdoms

I think that's the correct.

Errr, I'm not sure what you're trying to say here. Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a Chinese novel series. There are many, many games based on it. Shin Sangoku Musou is also based on it.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms isn't Shin Sangoku Musou.

Ancient Roman/Greek mythology isn't god of war either.

Shin Sangoku Musou is pretty unarguably based on Romance of the Three kingdoms.

I think Chris's point though is that the game called Romance of the Three Kingdoms is also called Sangoku Shi in Japanese.

Sengoku isn't the same as Sangoku, FYI.

For what it's worth, I like the aesthetic/design of Sengoku Musou over Basara, even if Basara does play better.

I don't think you understand what I'm saying. Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a story. I'm referring to that. I'm not referring to the strategy games also by Koei. Shin Sangoku Musou is most definitely a Rot3K game. I'm not sure why you're even arguing this.

Sengoku Musou is based on the so called sengoku jidai (戦国時代). its the period between the muromatchi and edo bakufu.

Sangoku Musou is based on a novel called romance of the three kingdoms which is based on the historical sangoku jidai (三国時代) which is a period between the han and the jin dynasty

Yeah, sorry I'm aware of the difference, was too caught up in the 三国志　<=>　三国無双　、　that I confused my English lettering, if it was Japanese, the kanji would have been easily seen.

Just so I can add something of some input: many Japanese retailer blogs are predicting a sangoku musou 6 announcement at TGS.

Also wonder when we'll get Orochi 3.

Oh and about future KOEI titles:

I totally expect a Fist of the Northstar 2. They didn't cover the whole story in the first game and it sold pretty well in Japan right? I also think they will do something to release Samurai heroes 3 on other platforms than the Wii.

Wasn't a PS3 port of SW3 announced one or two weeks ago? Or was that just a hoax?
