don't forget this week is Obon. 3DS numbers will probably double, Vita numbers will likely see a sizable increase as well.
No way it's going to double. Maybe increase by a few thousand, sure.

Fun note: In David Sheff's Game Over, he chronicles the enthusiast and press reactions to Super Mario World when it was revealed, and a lot of people were aboard the "This just looks like Super Mario Bros. 3, why are they so creatively bankrupt?" train.
Most people don't remember this because they were eight. But part of me expects some bitter gnashing of teeth in ten to fifteen years when people talk about how much fun they had with NSMB Wii and the older set go "NO IT WAS TERRIBLE DID YOU NOT SEE HOW PREDICTABLE THE SNOW LEVEL WAS"
so the 3ds sold 5.5 million since the price drop? that's much more dramatic than i had believed.
anyone betting 3DS LL reaches 1 million before Vita?
heh I don't think it will happen. Vita should be at approx 850k no?
Vita is at 873,185 according to MC, while 3DSLL is at 334,386 after 3(?) weeks. If both keep selling consistently (Vita ~10,000 with a bump here and there, 3DS LL >50,000) it'll be a close race.
is the XL counted as stand alone or sales are accumulated between both systems?
MC reports both the combined 3DS and 3DS LL figures as well as the individual breakdowns (like they did with the PSP & DS models, I believe). Check the OP.
I never scrolled down the little sales window...mind blown!
okay, then...Vita could reach 1 mil in 10 weeks selling 10.5k per week
3DS is currently at 334k, stabilizing at 50k for the sake of this game..bloody hell that would be hairy enough
I used to play Mario as a kid not cos of the cool new suits or whatever but because of the daunting but exciting challenge of getting to the end. Surviving. Getting through the adventure and seeing what crazy thrills await at Bowsers Castle.Well said LOL. I think people forget what it was like when they were young. We weren't concerned with innovation as much as long as we got our new Mario and it was fun. New suits yay! I've come to expect that the NSMB line is aiming for the younger players and also the older ones looking for a throwback feeling. I don't really look at it as a mainline Mario title. Just a fun experience wich I'm fine with.
At 10,500 per week Vita would cross the 1M threshold after 13 weeks (putting us in November?). At 50,000 3DS would cross the threshold after 14 weeks.

You could very well end up with two different winners, depending on the tracking firm being used. So unless there's a single winner that wins both tracking results - there's probably not much point spending much time on it.
Right.
I remember the Gamecube. Do you?
Yeah, 2013 should be a good year for Wii U. It better be.
I don't understand why NSMB2 was needed, honestly. 3D Land sold 5 million copies worldwide, no? Why is it necessary to release another Mario so soon after? They didn't release another Mario the year after NSMB DS was released. 2 is just going to kill some of the momentum 3D Land has, and possibly eat away some of the NSMB U sales. Doesn't make any sense to me coming out this year.

That's kind of been lost to infinite lives/saves, handholding, and a nonsensical or predictable world layout.
There needs to be fewer power-ups and 1ups. In fact, new suits is fun but kinda mitigates the difficulty level.
I've lived in Japan 9 years now. I have a Japanese wife and kid (and one more on the way next month),

I do hope they'll make a conference as the one last year in September. That was epic, one of the best show ever, better than 90% editions of E3.
The most impressive thing about the conference in September wasn't really the conference itself; it was the Sony one shortly afterwards that stood in stark contrast to Nintendo's. Immediately after Nintendo's there were a good few people who were expecting Monster Hunter to be announced as multiplatform in Sony's show. After the end of Sony's when we realised that announcement wasn't coming, *that* was the bit that was mindblowing.
Obon is one of the most important Japanese traditions. People believe that their ancestors' spirits come back to their homes to be reunited with their family during Obon and pray for the spirits. For the reason, Obon is an important family gathering time, and many people return to their hometowns.
World only saved if you beat a fortress, switch palace, castle, or ghost house, and sometimes special worlds. Those were generally only a few levels apart.
The spirits of the dead return and people pray for them?
Should be good for Vita, then.

wait, what has this thread turned into?
Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Super Mario World, but, I would have to say that the last Mario where it was actually a significant challenge to make it to the end of the game without getting a game over was Super Mario Bros 3.
Apparently a game design discussion on NSMB2... thread derailed.
If Project Diva f will sell similar to Project Mirai, we all know where the next main Project Diva will be (other than PS3).

I haven't been following these threads for awhile, but is there any interesting upcoming Vita game in Japan?
