I was joking about the million breaking sequel, I don't really expect that. It's just that Level-5's first multi-media project exploded in its second outing, and LBX can crawl near sales Inazuma Eleven did on DS. I do expect growth for LBX 2. (Conversely, Medarot 2 is the best selling Medarot game, and LBX shares a lot in common with Medarot)

Well KH kinda did that with the secret movies at the end no? It would be kind of a douche move but they'll have to switch platform at some point anyway, and right now the 3DS is a better fit for the audience they're trying to get (and gives the franchise a chance to not completely bomb in the west).

Well, KH games take years so it's understandable that they tease games for other platforms. I fully expect LBX 2 to be released in 2012, and Level-5 have an existing engine that'll "only" be used by 3 retail releases.

I dont think its that easy to predict - PSP isnt DS and LBX isnt IE2.

But if that GotY edition sells well enough, maybe the next title could sell + 500K. I still think a million isnt possible.

Won't be too long before we know, if Boost sells really well there's a sign that the series could improve its sales with a sequel (opposite to God Eater, where Burst didn't sell nearly as well as the original).

Is it me or has the PS3 finally hit it's stride when it comes to software sales. It's doing pretty good these last couple of months, with a string of 100k+ selling titles.

PS3 never had problem creating medium hits (100+ opening, 200K-300K LT). For its software, the problem is always about not able to create a mega seller that sells 1 million (except FFXIII).

Absolutely.

@Takao: Let's see what LBX Boost will tell us.
If it does a good amount of copies, we can think a sequel will do much better.
And I think it could be multi PSP-3DS.

3DS is growing a lot, and it'll have lots of games able to mantain momentum. So, it'll be a good place where release it.
PSP has that great amount of install base and, above all, it's where the series is having success.

We don't know the exact numbers but we can have a rough estimate from the positions in top 50.

Uncharted 3 might not have outsold even the full priced version of Uncharted 2. The last number for it is from January.

Assassin's Creed will be pretty interesting to watch.

As we can see, the franchise peaked with the beginning of Ezio's chronicles, topping and going over the 100k target.
But with Brotherhood there has been a sharp fall, even behind the first one.
Why this fall? Maybe, because of the story, or because it hasn't been felt as a new sequel.

It'll be curious to see if Revelations can gain sales from the very good PS3 software momentum too. It could open with 35-40k like Brotherhood, or it could come back to ACII sales.

Regarding whether something is 2D Mario or 3D Mario, I think we've got a pretty broad continuum at this point. Until 3D Land, I would've said the Galaxy games were the big example of trying to merge aspects of the earlier 2D and 3D games. But now we've got this thing that's even more 2Dey.

You've got a point. Early August, PS3 software was about 800K behind where it was in 2010. Now it's about 800K ahead.

Kind of hard to match up the points with the lines not overlapping, but you can definitely see the 2011 line shoot up recently.

It is because it is a 3rd party game. The other new 3rd party 3DS game this week cost basically the same as DQ Slime 3.

Yeah, it is the norm indeed, especially on Nintendo platforms, but not only on them.
Example on a...non Nintendo platform.

Here's a look at the Medarot sales figures for its first and second iterations (Parts Collections are quasi third versions/expansion packs):

The concept, marketing, and release is so eeirely similar between LBX and Medarot that I'm unsure that judging the potential of LBX 2 on Boost is right. Obviously, if Boost bombs gigantically, it won't be good for LBX 2, but if Boost reaches 1/2 of what LBX did then I'd say things aren't looking bad.

However, there is Gundam AGE, which is being released in Summer 2012, for PSP. It is a Scamco game too, but Level-5 haven't abandoned PSP yet.

Uncharted 3 sales are good for the series and it outperformed handily its predecessors but let´s not get carried away. We are talking about just 125k units. And it´s also not like it was published by a small publisher either, the opposite is the case and it also got expensive marketing campaign just to put things in perspective. While it´s a good start all things considered it really isn´t that big of an achievement looking at the numbers.

I think that it is more that is is a really big surprise to people that it sold that much. Just look at the prediction league and you see that almost every prediction is somewhere between 50k and 85k. The lowest was like 15k and the highest was 97k. So it is at least a bigger achievement that many people expected

It won't be the king of EA LTD results in Japan, but to see again one of their games selling 100k+ in the first week, we have to go deeply back in time, when there was Square EA in Japan, and going back, we can see that this is the best debut for an EA game ever.

I think the dead island:s story is even more interesting, that game had much much less advertising hype then the 2 games this week, seems to have had great legs and very good sales for a non AAA shooter.

Eurogamer gave 8/10 to Uncharted 3...and then, NeoGaf went batshit insane.
But now, the meme is really tired.

@FFDOG: Yeah, it's true that Sega helps EA now, but BF3's debut is still something amazing for EA, SEGA or not SEGA.

Dead Island, however, is a REALLY interesting story. It should be near 65-70k. A new brand, not hyped as the big guns... interesting.

But I think we need to talk about Bandai Namco, sometimes. They changed a lot their fortunes in these months, passing from being Bamco to being, in a certain way...literally unstoppable, in Japan.
