It actually doesn't since the IP and the publishing rights are owned by Bandai Namco and not FromSoft or their parent company.

It was just a joke

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Acquisitions are almost never in the consumer's favor.

But the mental gymnastics will be fun to watch.
- Nintendo should still have a say because of Dark Souls on the Switch etc. etc.
- Microsoft should not be discounted because they are still relevant in the console space etc. etc.
- PC players will be very affected by this because Sony will definitely keep the PC players out and do timed exclusives for a year etc. etc.

For what it’s worth, Xbox is barely existent nowadays and the PC/PS simultaneous releases are very common nowadays

There are well over 60 million PS5's sold, the world will keep spinning.

I bet from soft would love seeing their sales figures go from 20 million in a week to 4-6 million. Miyazaki would love that I am sure. :D

Let's see how it plays out. I can happily wait if I have to, it would be worth it no matter what.

Elden Ring released in 2022, first video was streamed in the second quarter of 2021.

Stock price in the first quarter of 2021 was already over 2000 yen after Sony invested and over 3000 yen when Tencent invested too. You said previous to Elden Ring, the price of stocks were around 800 yen. I'm proving you are wrong.

Elden Ring was announced in 2019. Hype was building up for the game for years before release. Stocks absorb what people think a company will do not just what a company has done.

Why then Kadokawa stocks were around 600-800 yen? you are contradicting yourself.

See above. The stock was rising and it exploded post Elden Ring release.

Anyway, why are you mixing Sony IP games as a main stock price factor?

Because they're From games, for which Sony will clearly want continued post-acquisition.

The idea that Sony isn't doing this because of FromSoftware is patently ridiculous. Just a coincidence they're buying a company that they're invested in, in the past and worked with multiple times in the past. They're really doing this for anime and have randomly selected the parent company of FromSoftware despite them not being a major leader in anime or manga. There are way bigger companies Sony could buy if they wanted a bigger hold of the anime/manga market.

Am i the only one thinking this was only a matter of time? Not aying it's good or bad but...let's face it, Sony is way too into anime as well as acquiring one of their biggest gaming partners, From Software. Makes sense for them as a company.

At first I thought you were just a troll but I can’t lie you’ve grown on me over time. The blatantly erotic love you hold for Sony and your desire to see everyone else fail is actually quite refreshing.

Thank you, Im glad you like my contribution 🫶

Where is that "Kevin Chang" pic 😅

Yeah, and Sony cares about that so much that they've stopped the PSN login requirement on Steam... Oh wait...

Bloodborne - No PC release
Demon's Souls - No PC release

But you're CONVINCED Sony would keep DAY ONE releases going forward?

I wouldn't bet on it.

From with the help of Bluepoint can pump out games without having to worry about optimizing on PC. Nixxes can do all of that, but it does come with a delay.
I think dench is correct, there's no way if this is true you spend billions on acquiring one of Japan's largest media conglomerate, only to lock its content to one platform.
No one should be getting excited for possible exclusivity anyway, from soft games should stay multiplatform everyone should be able to enjoy them

First order of business: Bring Bloodborne to PS5…

But seriously, would make sense, after they hopefully recognized that their Gaas strategy is not working out.

Acquisitions are good now? Let’s keep that same energy when Microsoft fucks around and buys Capcom or Square. Which I feel like people should be fearful of.
Unlikely. I believe the protections in place make it hard for any American company to buy a Japanese one. Sony would be more likey to get square or capcom. Sorry.

All of this is on the table with the trifecta of FromSoftware + Bluepoint + Nixxes

Demon's Souls PC Port
Demon's Souls 2 AKA Dark Souls 4 - PS5, PC a year after launch
Bloodborne Remastered - PS5, PC a year after launch
Bloodborne 2 - PS5, PC a year after launch
Elden Ring 2 - PS5, PC a year after launch

That's 3 new games, a port, and a remaster probably all within the next 5-7 years.
Or never ever after launch!
😂😂😂

I'd say Demon's Souls on PC is already on the cards regardless of this deal since it was in the Nvidia leak just like Ghost of Tsushima, which, even if it took nearly three years to materialize, did end up coming to PC.

I'd personally bet on another new IP rather than on Demon's Souls or Bloodborne sequels. Something properly engineered from scratch to fit into Sony's current pursuit of transmedia properties. Also, based on development cycles and stuff, Elden Ring 2 could very well be lined up to be a PS6 launch game at this point, which would be absolutely massive and comparable to what Breath of the Wild was for Switch's launch.

If Sony buys From then its goodbye to Souls games to me. No way their games would remain the same with modern Sony touch. Not to mention disgusting Hermen would demand them to make a Horizon Souls, blergh

In fact, an interesting acquisition, if true. Here we are changing too much in FromSoftware, and it is clear that this is a large acquisition, but this is only part of the picture. I think if this is true Sony is targeting Kadokawa Corporation, because it is somewhat more than just games, they do a lot of interesting things.

Let's say they own BookWalker - one of the largest digital manga distribution networks, plus they also publish manga under their own brand. And in general, they have a fairly large list of companies that are engaged in the creation and publication of manga.

If we take the gaming division, I understand that of course FromSoftware, but there is, for example, Spike Chunsoft - who just made the super popular Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, and before that they made the super popular Danganronpa series. Also there for a second Acquire, these are of course smaller guys, they helped Squier Enix with the development - Octopath Traveler 1-2, well, and Mario & Luigi: Brothership which just came out is their game.

And this is so superficial without details, there are actually a lot of companies. Therefore for Sony it will be quite a fat piece. Because it will not only give them additional companies that work in the gaming industry, but also strengthen their influence in the Anime and Manga market (And Sony by the way already has a huge influence, they have actually swept almost everything under their control).

If of course all this is true =)

Give it a rest.

It will guaranteed be day one on playstation and pc. The only platform that needs to worry is xbox.

But your a pc guy now. So you got nothing to worry about.
:D hence my posting.
Not sure why you'd have to wait when you have multiple PS5's.

Yup, I could play on my PS5 but all my From games are on PC. If they ran well, and looked great I would play on PS5 tbh. So it could work.

This would be terrible, sony is too agenda driven and doesnt give a damn about thier OG base. Get sony away from real games, they will turn them sour.

Why on earth would you think that? they'll be exactly the same, you do know most of Sony's studios are pretty autonomous dont you? if they do have anything in them that you dont like then blame the individual studios.

Well if they do purchase Kadokawa then it isnt just media related is it?

If it happens it means they will also be buying Spike Chunsoft, FromSoftware, Acquire and Gotcha Gotcha Games
My heart wants these guys to work again with SIE.

Autonomous in what way? Like Spider-men 2 preaching?
Theres obviously gonna be changes in the core aspects of the game, specially when talking about creative libertities.

Yes? Blame Insomniac, it's their game. We've heard many times from studios that Sony gives them pretty much free reign over games they create. They obviously have to pitch them the games they want to create but other than that they are mostly hands off.

I think this doesn't really make sense for gaming. But Kadokawa does a lot of anime and manga, which could be helpful to grow Sony.

Why do people still believe that creative aspects such as these are pushed by the top and not by the actual creatives on the studios?
For every Sony game that is like this, there are another three that are not like that.

If it's true I hope it will be like a Bungie type of deal, that the games by From stay where they are now. I guess we'll see eh?

I blame Sony. Its their game. Just like buying Firewalk and making Concord.

Because its a different type of libertity, specially one that comes from Fromsoftware. Libertities with story and characters are the main concerns I have.
I never had that worry in the past, since old Sony would just leave their games to have all the freedom they wanted(hence why we had Bloodborne and it was great). But modern Sony clearly have sencitivities that I'm sure would interfere with Myiazaki ideas.

They still allow them freedom though, that's what I was saying. The individual studios make those decisions, are some bad, yes, but blame the studio not PlayStation as a whole. I thought people were trolling when they said 'modern Sony' but I guess I was wrong.
