It is rumored that the embargo on RDNA4 cards might lift on January 22, which goes along with a teaser date shared by XFX on social media. While the specifics are unclear, this could be the date for a full specifications reveal or the lifting of the review embargo.

I wonder how AMD found out about the “Better than 4090. $549.” line. Seems clear to me they did and rightfully pulled the parachute to see it shake out.
AMD is always criticized for launching at too high a price and adjusting late. This is a sign they want the price to be right immediately and they shouldn’t be faulted yet.
Thankfully.. the narrative on YouTube reviews has shifted already. Lots of “nvidia is full of it” stuff now that they can play off of.
FSR4 early looks this morning actually seem very good. If they’re smart they’ll price this XT model in line with the base $549 5070 at the most… and be transparent and emphasize “real frames” vs. “fake frames”.

Lots of people want to support AMD here. Give us an excuse.

AMD has not launched RDNA4 yet.
Your comment makes no sense. You mean worst advertising for a incoming product.

How is this the worst product launch If they cards are not even released yet??
The launch starts with reveal hype.

There's basically zero hype for this, I'm literally watching tech youtubers cover AMD AIB cards at CES and they can't talk about anything meaningful about the cards. AMD has given people nothing to talk about but their own incompetence.

This point in time is the start of consumer conversion, if you can't spread the word out and hype people to buy those cards day 1, then you are likely gonna have a shitty launch, numbers-wise.

We don't even have pricing, no detailed specs, they didnt even officially reveal all the models even though they had the stage 1st.
No, Nintendo wins this one
The last Switch kinda had similar leaks, and it was an actually inventive device and not an iterative one like 2.

Having a lot of leaks that deflate fan overhyping is actually good for Nintendo imo. Like I have yet to see anyone say they won't buy a switch 2 anymore based on what's been revealed so far.

Non-sense.
Launch for a product is when it's available on the market.
Before that, it's just a presentation.
You clearly have no grasp of marketing and why a run-up to the 1st sales day matters.

If only the moment sales start counts, then why do we even bother with things like CES or Computex? Why do manufacturers? The answer is they do matter, and they matter greatly because the normies watch these things and don't go through benchmark spreadsheets.

I always root for AMD (and Intel in the GPU space) because I don't want to see one company gobble up all the money, but they just shot themselves in the foot (again).

Jensen must have been laughing when he saw that.

But b*tches gonna b*tch.
Will be hilarious to see how much these cards will tank.

But then the hype is with the people, the company didn't do that.
AMD went to CES, showed it briefly and said they would talk more about it this quarter.

Anything else is speculation and internet engagement. Just like the speculations that people make throughout the Sony conference. Every year there's Chrono Trigger Remake.

On Nvidia's side it was the price, on AMD it's how they're going to fight Nvidia. Intel talked about Battlemage, 5 days before launch.

Maybe you are new to hardware releases, but a presentation is not the same as a launch.
At this point we don't even have a date for RDNA4 launch. Only a leak, that suggest the 22nd of January.

Nvidia gave people concise (and targeted) info about their new GPUs, and made sure their press briefing matches what was announced (as in, not re-embargoing the info).

Was it misleading in places? Absolutely (especially with the 5070 = 4090 stuff). But it got people buzzing about the product, and you just know that a lot of people have a 5070 in their sights for purchase day 1. I went on a local site to see what a 4090 goes for used in case I decided to sell my own and get a 5090, you know what I found? I found people bidding $300-400 for them because "5070 will crush this in a few months". Nvidia delivered its message successfully and will rake in cash.

Meanwhile on the red side of the planet, I'm watching a YouTuber browsing through Gigabyte's booth trying to tell me that the 9070 (non-XT) also has a 16GB VRAM and that could mean they could be competitive with Nvidia's 70-series, all while trying to tip-toe around AMD's press embargo.

If I'm Lisa Su, I would find this to be deeply unacceptable, and would fire these jokers ASAP. This is not the 1st time the AMD Radeon marketing team managed to fumble the bag either.

So even more messaging and marketing failure than I thought, great.

The customers will just.. be telepathically be drawn to the Microcenter shelves and Newegg listings to buy these RDNA4 cards for.. reasons unknown to them, huh?

The guy clearly referred to the marketing surrounding the launch. Come on.

The launch date has not been announced yet. That's it.
We only got a sneak peak at RDNA4 and FSR4. And that sucked because we were expecting a full presentation.
The official presentation will be in the next few days.
Hardware is not launched on the day of the presentation. So trying to pretend this some failure.
Not even Nvidia is launching on the same day as they presented the hardware to the public.

Yes, he is talking about the launch.
Yeah, the marketing leading to the launch. You can read between the lines. We’re in the stage where the product is about to be launched and the marketing according to the poster sucks. Clearly, he’s not talking about the reviews or stocks because the product isn’t out.

You understood what he meant.

Nvidia had 2 hours of event, AMD only 45 minutes. Nvidia only works with GPUs, AMD has CPUs for various segments, laptops, integrated GPUs, etc.
They later said that they will hold an event just for RDNA 4, to be able to detail the GPUs, talk about the new technologies and FSR 4.

In 2022 she did the same for the RDNA 3 GPUs and spent 1 hour just talking about them.

You're just anxious.

The information we had from Nvidia was all leaks and speculation. We only officially found out on the January 6th. So much so that one thing that changed in relation to the leaks was the price of GPUs.
Lisa Su doesn’t care about people complaining on the internet. She's more concerned about what investors think, and they probably already knew some of the company's plans.

I understand that marketing is a little weak, but I think that people place a lot of expectations on things and get frustrated when things turn out differently than they imagined.

It’s part of the phase leading up to the launch. What are we even arguing here when we all agree the product hasn’t launched and the poster you quoted thinks what AMD is doing now to hype up the next cards is terrible?

Yes, the presentation that AMD did was terrible. But that was not the launch.
The launch is supposed to be on the 22nd, so that is when we get the reviews and the cards on the stores.

It wasn’t, but it was part of the launch marketing. You know, the marketing shortly before the release. That’s what the poster meant.

Anyway, this discussion is pointless and sidetracking the thread.

Whatever the case, I just think AMD isn’t doing enough as we speak to hype up their products. As far as I’m aware, this was their biggest opportunity and they missed it. Now they will have to rely on blogs and social media unless they will schedule another event.

This can be a marketing strategy too. It releases a leak little by little and creates anxiety. The first leaks were disappointing, little by little they improved and today there is talk of something competitive depending on the price.
I'm seeing the internet comment more on these AMD leaks than on Nvidia, which ended up becoming more of a discussion about fake frames.

I doubt that is the strategy.
AMD was waiting for Nvidia to show it's hand. So they can adjust their pricing and strategy accordingly.
It's telling that Nvidia is so dominant, that AMD has to play coy with it's own announcements.

I don't really believe this because they could just announce the GPUs without mentioning the price. They usually do this with Ryzen, only releasing the price later.

Or they could you know, watch the launch presentation? Although it may seem incredible, sometimes there are streams that don't take place during CES and people can watch them in their web browsers.
