I finished the game with just under 30 hours, I have found all the secret areas, fought all the bosses. Beat BB (which was my first) in about 35 hours, Dark Souls (after BB) 80 hours. Thought the game was very easy, one shot most bosses, had some trouble only with Nameless Knight, whom I managed after about 10 tries and Dragonslayer Armour, whomI beat after 6 or so tries.

But I thought the game was very enjoyable. I am looking for a way to play DS1, but I don't have a good PC nor a PS3, so I'm hoping for a remaster along the way :)

I ended up beating the game last night and my time was 19:15. I had the same feeling at the end of Bloodborne, but I'm really becoming disappointed as how short these games are becoming.

Question: I'm level 39 and only just got to the undead settlement, how over leveled am I?

There is no such thing as being over leveled in Dark souls in terms of character levels, it doesn't play a huge role. it's your equipment that matters mostly, such as weapons and abilities. You will probably die just as easily as you would if you were level 20. However your weapon level or abilities you have may over power you for the area.

I just finished the game with 40 hours. I love exploring every part of the game no matter how long it takes.

I'm at 30 hours and I'll be finishing up S
mouldering
L
ake
tonight. I take my sweet time with these games, exploring everything, staying to fight the bosses with others, and I also die a ton due to playing a glass cannon. It'll probably be an 80 hour game for me, not even including DLC.

K, so after killing
Dragonslayer Armour
went through the optional zone below the castle, ended up killing
Oceiros
in one try, because Hawkwood's summon mark was there and I didn't think there'd be a boss so near.

So yeah, progress!

Finishing the game in 40 hours is a lot different than being @ 30 hours on roughly the third area of the game. He's roughly on pace to hit near 100+ hours to beat the game, which is insane unless it's for mp reasons.

I'm thinking most of you responding to me didn't even bother to read the post I was responding to.

Finished with the Usurpation ending, 32 hours and SL 84.

Pretty much used the two weapons I had from the first few hours right up 'til the end, only real complaint, the weapons weren't all that appealing.

Good gracious...I must be terrible at these games. I am only halfway or so just got to
Boreal Valley
but that area is kicking my butt so far :T and I am sitting at over 20 hours.

I backtrack through areas at least once after clearing them and ALWAYS find something new. I do this with my summon sign up and do a lot of co-op, surprisingly I keep thinking I'm overleveled but I still get summons. I'm at 25 hours so far and while I've done a lot of optional stuff I only just made it to
Irithyll
.

A couple hours were spent farming items, but the only things I've really gone after were Lothric Knight Sword and Dark Sword. I'm a str/dex build so I try to experiment with every weapon I find. I just don't see why I should race to the end instead of enjoying my time with the game, I'm not the type to replay these games often or do NG+.

I guess half an hour of my playtime was spent as a barrel. I got invaded in such a way that I was actually trapped
(the spot in catacombs with the bridge you cut down - my bridge unexpectedly regenerated itself and I was coming up from the bonfire by the demon)
. I used a white branch, parked myself in a corner and alt tabbed. Did the dishes and laundry, came back and he was STILL running around looking for me. It wasn't bugged out either, I saw him a few times but he never came down to where I was. He eventually disconnected but jesus why would you run around an empty level for half an hour.

what in the world are you guys doing that's taking you so long?!

On my NG+ run it took me no longer than 8-9 hours to get through cathedral, and that was with doing quite a bit of coop tomfoolery /and/ running through Lothric early.

Praising the sun a lot.. like..a LOT

Ok I've killed
yhorm, abyss watchers and now Aldritch. Got teleported to some place where I encountered the dancer but I died and I don't know how to get back there.

You can heal the sigil after the end, but you need to keep it until the final boss is dead (at least the summon signs for help against that final boss disappear if you don't)

Prima is correct.
It depends of course what you think is a "best" ending, but I can tell you that I found that ending was EASILY the most badass of the 3
4 in fact

What bothers me the most about that quest is that your character
doesn't cast any shadows as a hollow,
which bothers me a great deal.

It's opposite Vordts bonfire where the woman (Emma) gave you the banner at the beginning of the game.

Ok guys, I need help. So I made S
irris
hostile by joining the R
osaria's Fingers
covenant and offering a
pale tongue
without thinking. So I go back to Firelink and she tells me the next time we meet she will be hostile. My question is is there a way I can reverse that? Like if I go to the statue and have my sins forgiven? I really wanted to go down her quest path and am now bummed that I screwed myself. Maybe I really should play this game with a guide...

edit: Oh also one more question. After I beat each L
ord of Cinder
should I offer the
ashes to the thrones? I couldn't figure out if I should do them one at a time or wait until the end?

gotta grind them games out quick, Dark Souls 4 next year! :D

Fucking hope not. Please no. I did enjoy 3 but it also showed that at this point the series is going in circles, with almost every zone being recycled from the older games. I hope miyazaki stays true to his words and this is the last souls game we see for a long while

Yoshichan

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?

I've beat 5 bosses for now and I have 20 hours played. I died quite a bit, especially because in the beginning I went with Deprived class, but still isn't that much, especially compared with others games (BB I've beat with 40 hours, DSII 70hrs, DSI 40 hours - without the secrets though). I just like exploring everything, walking and looking at the scenario, predicting ambushes, finding myself in the land, reading items descriptions, checking npc's, etc.

I was worried that the game would be too short, given you guys feedback, but actually it is as long as the previous games lol

I asked before but the thread moves so fast. I'm thinking of a pyro strength build. Would a raw infusion be better than fire incase i run into someone resistant to fire? Id also like to use a bow but dont want to spread my stats too thin.

How long does it take for most players to get through the game? I had my first character, but no idea what I was doing so I dropped him before the Abyss Watchers fight. My second character I completed the game in 22 hours. Thinking I could do it in 12 with my new one,.

well being overleveled prevents you from getting summoned. I happen to like co-op a lot and I feel like I shot myself in the foot by doing certain optional areas. For example I was around 50 and had a +7 sword before I went to
Cathedral
. I did still somehow get summoned twice but it took 10-15 minutes instead of instant like other bosses.

A friend of mine is thinking about selling the game because he can't beat the first boss (Iudex something). I took me a couple of tries to beat it but do you really need to beat it to progress?

I've consistently completed every game in about 35 hours since dark souls 2 really, taking time to explore every cranny and every zone, and still missing stuff. I find it surprising people can finish it in less than 20-25. I even summoned a bunch this time around for my first playthrough just to get faster through the story

Yes, you cannot progress without beating him and he is also the only boss you can't summon for...

I'm using a very hybrid pyromancy build right now (15 faith/int, 28str, 15 dex) along with a solid mix of all defensive stats and it is actually going great, I just got to the catacombs. Better than the other characters I've done.

Minor pyromancy spell related spoiler relevant to your question:
You will get a fire enchant pyromancy for your weapon at some point. You can just leave your weapon infused with whatever stat you prefer (heavy, sharp, etc) and then enchant it with fire when you want.

Tell your friend to pick a knight and try again. Some starting classes make that fight a real pain in the ass. I consider myself a souls vet and trying to beat Iudex with the thief starter took me 10+ attempts.

I discovered one secret area so far (well optional, at least) being
Smoldering Lake
, are there a couple of them? I feel I might naturally miss them, is it worth using the most basic of a tutorial or guide to find the entrance, then explore them blind? I want to see as much as possible on my first NG.

well that's dumb. Why would they drop you such a wall at the beginning. At least in the first game the first boss was easier.

he is using knight and it's his first souls game. I understand his frustration.

Some of us like to take our time and explore. I'm 20 hours and just beat my first Lord. Also doing co-op and such. But I enjoy taking my time. These games usually take me 50+ hours, and I like that.

I have to restrain myself from burning through areas too quickly now. My guard break shenanigans are just obliterating these enemies and this area I'm in (
Irithyll
) looks so cool I don't want to rush.

If you're curious about the area you're in
I found a fairly large and crazy secret area there
. It was neat how I found it too,
I think the ballista broke open a chunk of the floor when I was running around exploring and I dropped down into a whole new place.

There is one that is very easy to miss, although it is possible to work it out from item descriptions. It's late game

You will most definitely miss the arguably best one,
Archdragon Peak
just because it's so random to access. The other one you haven't discovered yet is definitely more obvious albeit hidden behind an optional boss as well.
