that sucks...rolling was always an option in the other games and they never forced anyone to have to use it...same way with parrying and other features...why bring back shields in the game (coming from Bloodborne) if it's not a viable option of finishing the game!

I agree, it does suck. As does the removal of poise from heavy armour (or the uselessness of heavy armour in general).

It is absolutely the removal of choice. They are forcing you to play in a certain way, and that can only harm replayability, since there will be less ways to experience this game than there were Dark Souls. It also alienates players like me who chose (yes, CHOSE!) to poisetank with heavy armour and high stability shields.

This is probably my last FROM game as a result.

But 30 fucking hours?! How?! I fully explored everywhere on my first run (that's including the swamp) and still beat the game in about 22/23 hours and did all the side content in around 29 hours. Unless you're going full molebro and ganking newbies for days at a time it legit blows my mind that you take that long to get through the game.

I'm at 26 hours and at
Boreal Valley
. It doesn't seem like I'm playing that slowly lol.

FROM needs to fix getting summon, but can't enter the boss room. It seems like it's half of the time. Sucks to be the host.

i finished
izalith
at 35 hours. not sure how fast that is, but i didn't farm souls. it was just exploring and probably dying a bit too. i helped others for 1-2 hours max. that's all.

When you get 5 level ups through this system,
he dies and Yuria of Londor takes his place. She will mention Anri, who will become your spouse if you follow the quest line correctly. This leads to a different ending providing that you don't 'heal the dark sigil' at the Firekeeper

Nice. If I
go Hollow, complete the questline and then "cure" the Hollowing via the Firekeeper...
can I get the
alternate ending
?

Well, my Prima Collector Guide Book has been shipped by Amazon...I'm going to see for myself if it's really that bad...
It's going to be a step back from Future Press for sure but I hope I won't regret it too much at least.

It's viable, but some people expect block heavy weapons easily with just a medium shield which is bonkers.

The game is very easy with shield, except some enemies that have very heavy 2 handed weapons, which is actually the freaking point of the weapons. The ability to drain shield stability.

Does people really expect block everything with a medium shield, press R1 a couple of times and rinse and repeat until the end of time?

Were the mimics un-nerfed some time before the official english release? I played on xbone with the JP store trick, which was supposedly a bit easier than the JP and subsequent english versions. When I am playing though the PC version, everything feels pretty much the same, except that the mimics are much more difficult. It is almost impossible to kill them before they have properly activated, which was easy on the xbone version.

No difference from JP PS4 version. They are the same.

It took me 41 hours and I did zero pvp or co-op shit.

Some of us are just slow.

I've made it to
Irithyll Dungeon
and I'm surprised at how well my build is working so far. For reference I'm at around 40 something hours played.

Class is Pyro, using a Brigand Axe+4, with a long bow +3 and Pyro glove +4. Been speccing most of my points into DEX, INT and FAITH. Whiel early I did put some point into STR to use my current ax and END, I haven't done that in some time. This results in a character who does good damage at range and great damage up close but is pretty squishy even with my rather paltry armor taken into account. One Estus flask+4 usually gets me to full HP no matter where my HP level is at.

It's not really bad at all. I found it useful in the end, especially for NPC quests and general walkthrough.

Wait, i'm 30 hours in and just got to that area as well, but havent even seen that part of th area. Where is that?

Once you've opened up the second shortcut, take the lift to the top of the tower, climb a ladder and roll off the side onto a roof. You can then access the top of the cathedral.

What is a good covenant to join? I didn't do much with them in the previous game and like a typical wiki - the wiki is almost useless.

Wow, that sucks to hear heavy armour and shield players are feeling let down. I've always been a roller and coming out of Bloodborne I wanted to play the same way. I'm feeling disappointed that very little of what they learned (and excelled in) from Bloodborne's focus on agile characters has been applied to DS3.

I was very much hoping Bloodborne was an exercise in Dex characters, and a future game would be an exercise in spell casters, with everything learned being folded back into the core Dark Souls series to IMPROVE choices and the gameplay variety/feel. Sounds like they've decided to leave all the awesome speed gameplay behind in Bloodborne and just further homogenise gameplay in Dark Souls by restricting heavy armour gameplay. Sucks.

it depends on the shield...in previous Souls game it worked fine if you had a shield with 100% physical protection...yes you need to find a good shield but once you do an enemy should not be able to completely drain your Stamina with 2 hits (at Endurance 37)

You can still poisetank, just with your weapon instead of your armour.

The amount of mimics is hilarious in this game. The ratio of mimics to normal chests is probably the inverse of why it used to be, is say at least 3:1.

I like imagining that they started to wonder if they had too many, and then realized the only real solution was just to go all in and add even more of them.

I can't make Sirris appear at the Shrine. Talked to the guys in the woods, didn't join Rosaria's Fingers, but she doesn't appear. Is there anything I can do?

boss just died by getting snagged on an obstacle then falling through the floor. I'd been fighting it for hours and always failing in the second stage.

I'll gladly take that victory.

(then I forgot to cash in my souls and lost 20k in the next area whoooops)

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.

The very first chest in the game being a mimic even when it wasn't in the beta was some real "Oh fuck we in for a ride" moment to be sure.

How did you even get that high? Enemies in the first zone give 100 souls max and by that point leveling should cost close to 10k

The Knights by bort, plus the blue knight. Kinda zoned out while listening to music. And a lot of grinding on the high wall. Probably 20 hours so far.And yeah, my last level cost around 9000+ souls.

The real problem is that there are almost no chests in the game, compared to the previous Souls games (don't remember if BB was this bad about it).

Roaming around Cathedral and Farron Keep and cant find the next Boss for now,(after 4th)I opened the 3 torch doors and I am not sure whats going on in a few areas...some kind of hard knights(I am level 34) are walking around and killing ennemies and I am actually getting the souls but I came close to one and he attacked me and killed me pretty fast...on and off a lady in Firelink shrine appears and says she can help me if need be...guessing its one of the covenant? guessing I have to embered ? I have the Sun crest equipped...

Anyway finding some stuff here and there while i'm lost so its not all bad lol...

There seems to be a lot of misinformation out there regarding hollowing.
I'm currently at hallow level 7 after Yoel hooked me up with some free levels. I was worried that I was screwing myself over, so I starting doing some research on what the implications are.

Half of what I read was telling me that I needed to cure my hollowing in order to get the best ending. After consulting the Prima guide, apparently the exact opposite is true? That I need the 5 dark sigils from him plus 3 more to have the best ending? Good thing I waited for the correct advice, I was going to get rid of those sigils pretty fast.

I'm at 24 hours and I've only just cleared the
Cathedral and got through the swamp.

Some of us just aren't very good at these games, I die an awful lot. I mean, I'm better than when I first played DS1 (when I almost gave up in frustration) but I don't feel like I've got much better despite having played DS1&2 multiple times.

To be honest I don't really need it for much, just want a (hopefully) complete inventory of all items in the game so I can see if I can get a "perfect" save where I get at least 1 of each item, or if impossible in case of an exchange for example, the last item of the chain.

I just finished the game with 40 hours. I love exploring every part of the game no matter how long it takes.

How do you start the
hollowing
questline?
Get the NPC pilgrim Yoel to the Shrine. He's found right after the first boss on the bridge.

It's a complicated questline. Best to google it.

For those saying that shields suck, get
shield of want
. 58 stability unupgraded.

Forget where I found it (I stumbled across
Demon Ruins
early - guessing I got it there) but I'm using this now. I was hesitant because it can't parry, but parrying is fucking impossible in this game (coming from someone who parried his way through every other souls game/bloodborne). It turns out I really really like the ability to use my weapon skill on demand - I use Lothric Knight sword which means I have Stance. Stance -> R1 does a very long range, fast guard break and it makes anything with a shield a joke. Having it at the ready at all times has been invaluable. I combine it with the ring that regens FP on critical attacks and I can basically just guard break every enemy forever, my sword does 110 criticals too.

Stance -> R2 seems mostly for PVP since it has crazy good tracking and leads into a combo. I was using the Dark Sword for a while and I'm not totally sold on the idea of its stomp ability being better than this.

You can heal the sigil after the end, but you need to keep it until the final boss is dead (at least the summon signs for help against that final boss disappear if you don't)

Prima is correct.
It depends of course what you think is a "best" ending, but I can tell you that I found that ending was EASILY the most badass of the 3
4 in fact

shit, apparently my
char is hollowed and looks like shit
.

how do i get rid of it?

U need to find a Fire Keeper Soul ->
You can find this on top of Firelink Shrine. U need the key to unlock the door behind the shrine. U can buy this for 20.000 souls from the old granny merchant
If u give this to the Firelink Shrine 'level up' girl she can heal your ass.

Yeah, parrying seems nearly impossible. Just not worth the risk of even trying.
