I'll probably end up buying one for extended warranty lol

As much as I love my PS5, the PS4 pro wasn't really worth it outside of extra psvr performance (for me).

I guess you forgot that the first Xbox was a massive flop and Ms gave up on it quickly and tried their luck with the 360. With which they were very successful.

So 24 Million in 4 years is a massive flop? so how you feeling about 2 console models that might be around 24 million when they hit the 3 year mark?

Is that a hint that Series XP is coming?

I doubt it's true because the RDNA2 architeture is much better than the Jaguar architeture used for the XONE and PS4.

But most devs are too lazy to optimize games, so i can see them wanting a PS5 Pro.

Weird to see people doubting Tom he's been pretty damn reliable I can't wait we've had plenty of evidence to suggest that these systems aren't strong enough for RT at reasonable performance levels. I'll honestly be happy with a locked 120 fps on games that support it instead of 90 and we'll finally be completely done with last generation

Playstation Vita flop 15 Million
Gamecube flop 21,74 Mio
Not sure about N64. I think it also counted as flop. 32,93 Million
Dreamcast flop 9,13 Million
Wii U flop 13,56 Million
Xbox flop 25 Million

I'm all for it. I probably wouldnt even bother upgrading like I did One X (which was a big boost and had a 4k drive so I could also play movies), but if anyone wants a mid gen upgrade go for it. What do I care if someone buys a Series X V2? I already dont care tons of PC gamers have better rigs than any console I've owned already.

No tech products go static for 7 years except consoles. There's always improvements in other tech gadgets. Hell, compare a toaster now to one in 3-4 years and those ones will probably be better.

When Pro and One X had mid gen refreshes, the games all worked on OG systems. So its not like studios were excluding gamers with launch systems. Mid gen systems are simply an option.

Ignore all the broke jealous babies who are playing older tech.

I hope it will be rdna 4 based as rdna 3 rt perf. is still lacking (but not sure its realistic in late 2024). Surprised people thinks there is no need for ps5pro. I mean almost 0 games target 60fps 4k, some already target internal res. close to 1080p for 60fps and thats just doenst look good, additionaly rt is weak on rdna2 and psvr2 has to do in more demanding games reprojection from 60fps and thats introducing visible ghosting on oled vr2. Many reasons to introduce ps5pro especialy late 2024.

Ps5 Pro and Xbox Pro will certainly not manage 4k 60fps. Higher effects and better ray tracing are most likely. 4k and 60 fps are not achievable.

Ah yes, when the base PS5 is nearly $900 here in Australia I'm sure a PS5 pro will do absolute wonders.
Manufacturers used to call AUS Treasure Island because they could just jack up the prices of everything they sold here. Mind you that was before eComm had become the norm. Still seems to happen a bit though

Cross-gen hasn't even ended. Why would we need a PS5 Pro when we've barely seen what the base PS5 can do yet?
Frameboost boxes , I despise this idea, instead of building legit next-gen stuff we get what's supposed to stop patients from switching to pcs.

I don't know, rdna3 raytracing performance is somewhat weak... I'm not sure there's a rdna3 card within console budget that can produce great raytracing.

Rdna3 is a raster monster tho, a 7700xt equivalent could probably run everything in the ps5 store at 4k 60 as long as raytracing is disabled.

So sorry if this is a dumb question but...

What has held back full, maxed out next gen games? Is it engines like UE5 not being done? Does Sony have their normal proprietary game engines at a mature state or are those still being developed? I heard once they were leaning to unreal. I don't know what they use anymore.

So assuming that might have something to do with it would the further development of those be able to encompass a PS5 PRO as well?

New architectures and all.

I didnt wrote they will as it all depands of how demanding game is just noted that we already see 2.5 years after ps5/xsx premiere that consoles already struggles.

Not sure why Tom is citing the PS5 RT patent as proof for the Pro. I remember LeviathanGamer2 said a while back that the patent is just describing the current RT implementation on PS5.

Not a good thing for me as I was thinking about finally getting a PS5 and GT7, makes me now want to wait until late 2024.

Then again I'm used to consoles dropping in price each year. I bought the PS4 Pro at the PS4 launch price. We've seen the PS5 rise in price in this crazy cost of living crisis post pandemic world. Is the PS5 going to drop significantly by late 2024 or are we going to see them stack the consoles like nvidia graphic cards? PS5 remains around £400-500 and the PS5 Pro is £700-800? Surely not but how is the PS5 going down enough for a sensible PS5 Pro price?

No. That Cerny RT Patent is about new accelerating RT hardware possibly as good as Nvidia RT tech. The patent is actually describing what's in RDNA2 as a reference but then describes plenty more hardware units to accelerate things that are currently done via software on RDNA2 GPUs.

One of the biggest upgrades from last gen is actually the hard drive to Nvm. We're not getting that jump again. Load times are just about non existent when done well.

It should be just graphics and some more grunt for PSVR2. I'll gladly pay for a refresh every 3.5 to 4 years. It's a little different than releasing a GPU every year.
Pro will not upgrade ssd much and cpu much.
All they can do is bit better gpu and cpu clock... maybe since consoles try to fit in the 200Watt anyway

I'll be trading in my PS5 for the PRO model when/IF this happens. I remember I did quite well doing this with the ps4... I believe the pro only cost me like another 200 more and I traded in a launch unit ps4 that was likely gonna croak soon anyway.
