So what's the consensus on the game... ?
Standard F2P progression system, tons of rewards at first to get you hooked, almost nothing at the end game, you reach "the wall" and decide to grind or cough up more money. (Hence Reddit complained and everyone got 15 Llamas)
End game is like 40 hours in so you'll still get tons of fun.

Thanks for the info. Doesn't sound terribly enticing... Unless they have plans for the endgame.

Also, F2P design choices in a full priced game ??

I've played only a bit and I'm finding this extremely overwhelming. Too many subsystems that I don't even know what to do, I got the Deluxe Edition and I already have more than a hundred schematics and tens of heroes which I'm afraid to level up or recycle because I don't know if I'm doing something wrong. Then there's the collection, the survivor squads, a ton of materials that I don't know where to get, six skill trees, time gated resources...

Then in the actual missions, people just wander around mindlessly harvesting for half an hour, only to fight a few zombies that can easily be killed without any construction at all.

I don't know if it gets better, but it feels like one of those mobile games where there are a hundred different things to collect.

-let me access my backpack outside of missions as well as craft. Sucks to get into a mission and THEN have to craft

I thought I was stupid because I couldn't find it...

Community seems to be fairly dumb online. Did that first co op mission that specifically states don't build over 30 things, and some ass clown builds 31/30 and THEN stops.

I dunno where you got this info about end game being only 40 hours in. Maybe if you play super efficiently, knowing everything before hand, sort of like a speed run, keeping in mind that some people have already gone through the content 2+ times due to the alpha.

I am curious if there is a place to see how long I've played so far. I'm only about half way through plankerton, which is of course just the second zone.

It's not a full priced game. It's a f2p in early access. The standard founder pack is 40 usd btw. This gets you access now. Later in 2018 it'll be f2p at some point. So yes, they have "f2p design choices". Sorta like MMOs have "f2p design choices", aka microtransactions, which are like paying to progress a bit faster. But the pay to progress is not necessary. I know this from playing in the alpha, where there were actually less features to progress than we have now.

I paid for the standard edition, I haven't ran into a wall yet, never ran into a wall during the alpha either but I never got to the end game since there is a lot of content to play through to get there. I think if you're worried about value, I think the value here is there. Like I said, I can't speak for the end game, but there is a ton of content before that. And since this is a f2p, game as a service, we know they're going to keep adding on top. They recently talked about having a persistent, open world like portion of the game. They'll probably add entire new zones as well.

The standard version is cheaper than most games. If you don't want to pay and get early access + bonuses, wait for the F2P version.

Yes. I'm thinking because it's still new and people don't know what's up. Too many random games where they make big fancy looking mansions instead of building a strong death maze.

evolved my soldier. he got a new outfit ;D

also. making random objects in the game and you can't place traps on it. feelsbadman

I couldn't find any info in here about this so I'm wondering about buying the physical PS4 version then being able to download it and play without the disc since my account would be linked to my PSN name... possible? Doesn't seem like it unless I'm missing something.

I failed my first mission, lol. It was the stealth robots, only 2 of us in the game, a raid hit while I was on the other side of the map and he couldn't hold it down. RIP

I can't say for sure, but I with the way the game works I'm sure once you have an account you could possible just download the launcher. I mean it's all through your epic account and you can download the launcher for the game for free on PSN and it just checks your account for founder account so I'm pretty sure even buying physical you can just download the free launcher and play.

Oh dang I think you're right! If you look at the store on the ps4 itself, there is no free download but if anyone else is looking, it appears to be here:

There are definitely some pleasant aspects about this game. The defense portions of the game are fun and it's really cool to see other player building the fort alongside you in real time. The shooting isn't half bad and the guns sound punchy.

The resource gathering isn't too bad either (I'm not big into these games usually, don't play Minecraft) but I do wonder if they might ever increase the resources for rares. I haven't really had to build many guns yet since I got a lot of them from Llama's but I would sacrifice my three other teammates for duct tape. Oh, and coal.

Everything about this game is perfect outside of the f2p mechanics. Fuck, if they just gave Lamas at a decent rate....
Meh, there's tons of problems outside it being f2p. UI sucks. Tutorials suck. The pacing sucks, leading players to being capable of upgrading a weapon beyond what they're even capable of making based on the materials they're gaining, completely fucking them over. There's no way to change the material of an already placed object. There's no way to destroy a placed object to get your materials/trap back.

The AI is the worst aspect of the game though. It's not set up correctly for the type of game that this is. Enemies attack whatever the fuck they want, and regardless of how great a base you end up making, the whole thing's likely gonna get demolished eventually. Everybody spends all this time making these elaborate castles that look great, but as soon as anything as high as 5 waves comes at it, the whole thing's coming down.

love that mission, you have to defend your base like it's your home base, we had to go over the limit, mini bosses were coming out by twos, took us 3 tries x_X

Wooooo that Astro Van mission was a doozy, we def over built but there was only 3 of us doing it! But man that was a fun challenge!

Feels good to start Plankerton tomorrow and dang I'm was really excited to start getting 2 skill points per level up but as soon as I opened skill sheet 2 I noticed each skill cost 2 to purchase.

My base sucks, haha. I'm kinda rubbish at building.

Maybe I'll hop on the discord tomorrow and team up with some people, as I've just been playing with randos which is hit or miss. Nothing horrible though.

I learned a new strategy. Is quite dumb, honestly.

"Carwash". Build a solid base except for a straight tunnel from your base to the direction the enemies willl come from that mobs can use to freely walk to the objective, the walls of this tunnel are full of traps.

Both players and mobs use the tunnel, and is quite great.

Thats so something Yang Wen Li would say. Keep on build, keep on learning :D

I love the asthetics on that weapon - and the name <3. (even though it is black not silver.)

Right now I am finding myself most often trapped in the menus and kinda not even starting a game but after micromanaging just closing it. o_O
Hopefully they change the UI fast.

This thing is just melting everything atm. It reloads super fast so the low ammo count hasn't really been an issue:

Yeah I have the epic and legendary versions of this and they are part of my Soldier's loadout 100% of the time. They're like assault-class sniper rifles; they do ridiculous damage but still benefit from Soldier assault perks.

Between that thing and the Nocturno with it's crazy good rolls you can pretty much wreck all engagement ranges. I only even use my third weapon slot just to spend ammo outside of those two pools; I have some legendary assault rifle that uses shotgun slugs there right now so it can also benefit from those Soldier perks.

I really need a better way of getting coal and gizmos. My rilfe is costing about 12 powder alone now.

Loot everything in houses, I find a lot of coal and gizmos in the weirdest places, Kitchen tables, but also gizmos in refrigerators. Last mission I had 6 gizmos from just looting houses.

Mats for weapons is so easy to get. I got at least 30 spare gizmos and that number usually climbs.

Here are a few tips:

Obtaining:
1. Missions can reward gizmos, usually get 2 minimum.
2. Open every toolbox you see, go to places you think toolboxes will be (garages, industrial sites)
3. Complete side events with crafting rewards. There is a solid chance to get gizmos.
4. Chests can drop gizmos. Finding chests is a bit of a skill on it's own. Learn where they spawn (often times on roof tops or in basements, sometimes behind false walls - for example). You can also use the radar towers to locate chests.

Maintaining:
1. Instead of having all 3 slots with a crafted weapon, use random weapon drops you find as well. This will mean dying has less of an impact, since dying only damages equipped gear. And random weapons that are dropped are sometimes solid weapons, you can evaluate at a glance looking at their power level.
2. If your lack of gizmos is making current power level difficult, try taking it easy and going to an easier zone.
3. If you're dying too often, which really increases the rate you consume gizmos, try increasing your power level, or your survival stats. Make sure you've spent all your survivor xp and hero xp (secondary heroes are good candidates to upgrade too).

Some of the tips apply to more than just gizmos. Like getting a ton of crafting mats if you do every side event that rewards crafting materials will often get you everything you need.

when you wake a chaser but didn't realize there was another one sleeping nearby and then you get 2 chasers chasing you the whole game. RIPq

Well the issue can be boiled down to different things, if you level a gun too high without a warning you can not make it until you farm high end of the star level or until you access the next zone, also all mats take a LOAD of inventory space of which theres very little. I got 105 slots now in my pack and I'm struggling to keep my guns and mats below 80, as I need them all for traps, ammo, weapons of different levels and so on. It's a unnecessary task of inventory management, stacks of 99 is too low when you need like 20-30 to make things...

Thanks for the tips guys. I've had a bit more success by just raiding garages and the like. Now however it seems I'm gonna start need silver for my best gun, probably gonna leave my other weapons on 1 star until I get a bit deeper into the second zone.

Before evolving you can see what mats the next version will take by previewing evolution and hitting the craft tab. It also changes the name from copper to silver, or silver to malachite, for example my shredder is changing from a silver shredder to a malachite shredder if I evolve. I have some malachite, but not nearly enough to sustain making enough sniper rifles til I get to canny valley.

In the alpha, I fell into this pitfall of making my weapons silver kinda early before I had a stockpile of silver saved up. So when I started dying a bit more because my power level was not high enough (because I wasn't spending survivor xp mostly), I ran into resource shortage on both gizmos and silver. This time around, these pitfalls I avoided. I think they increased the silver node rate too. And perhaps gizmos as well although I am not sure if it is that or I am just better at finding them.

I learned my lesson now but still, I'm being put into rank 34-40 power missions and without going Malachite you just waste so much ammo and durability. Sadly I need to farm pure drops now cause apparently you require it for everything and I have none :3 RIP being useful for a few hours LUL

I just think there still is too little storage options tho, guess I need to spend some time sorting what I need or what I can live without, my hording OCD is triggered.

How I wish the Stormshield bases would complete for everyone in the party so you won't have to invest in 4 bases and do everything 4 times. Shit eats every resource :##

I dumped some XP into an epic founder's schematic before I realized those were permanent.

Now I got the legendary version but can't reclaim the XP since it can't be recycled.

Am I missing something?

Damn, I want that. I have the legendary dual assault rifle, which works pretty well. It's my only legendary, so thankfully it's one that works well with soldier.

The poor handling of storm shield bases reminds me of doing urgent quests in Monster Hunter. Only one person gets credit, I seem to always be helping others in full groups when I choose "play with others", and when it's time for me to do mine, I can't get anyone to join.
