High end PC user what resolution and framerate are you targeting?

4k 60fps, 6900XT

I'm willing to drop settings to achieve it but won't drop textures from max.

Edit; previous gen high end at least

Framerate variable refresh rate monitor between 48hz to 165hz. Resolution I play either 2560x1080 or 3440x1440. I don't care about maxing out graphics

1440p, whatever works preferably over 85 fps. I can tell the difference between 60 and 120, and 85 seems to be the good enough for me spot.

I have two computers and have different requirements.

13700k + 4080 @ 3440x1440 monitor. Maxing out as much as possible but I will aim for at least 90 fps.

9990k + 2080ti hooked up to a LG C2 4k tv. Targeting 60 fps. It's actually the max I can do through the GPU's HDMI 2.0 port at 4k. I won't even try Ray tracing on this one, but DLSS is a life saver and this setup will still manage to blow my mind with how great games look and run on this 6 year old computer.

4k 60 or 1440p 120 depending on what monitor I am using. Quality FSR 2/3.

On my TV it's (DLSS quality 1440)@4k. At 60fps for new games or 120fps and native 4k for older titles. On my monitor it's native 1440p with DLAA at higher hertz on newer games and 165hz on older titles.

let me say though I only target 4k because my monitor is native 4k and going less looks like shit. My last monitor was native 1440 and that was my target. Monitors seem to be very unforgiving when it comes to native resolution compared to a tv.

4k dlss quality with unlocked framerate (gsync tv tho)

The pc is powerfull enough to stay in the 120/90 range most of the time.

If the game is too heavy i lock to 60.

I'm always targeting 4K/DLAA/120fps, but obviously I usually fall short of that. I'm willing to go with 4K/DLSS Quality/60fps at the lowest. All in-game settings maxed out of course.

9800X3D/4090/64GB DDR5 6000mhz

Definitely looking forward to the 5090. People still like to say that there's no game that pushes the 4090 but that's not even remotely true anymore.

1440p 240fps. Monitor can do 360Hz but can’t tell any difference and it has noticeable flickering so I stay at 240.

1440p is good enough for me. I’ve tried 4K and it’s nice but I felt like I had wasted my money so returned it and went back to 1440p.

Maybe one day I’ll get a 4K 240Hz monitor but only when it’s easy enough to run it and monitor prices are more reasonable. Even then it will almost feel like a side grade.

When I had my 4090 my target was always 120fps 4K.
When I sold my 4090 this summer, I also sold the 4K monitor, and now it's 120fps 1440p ,(4070 S)

I've got the Gigabyte Aorus 4K OLED 240hz DP 2.1 monitor ready, waiting to set it up until the new 5090 rig is ready. What a glorious day that will be!

Not high end anymore as im still rocking my 3070 lol, but its serving me well.
Anyway i always go for 60fps/2k high graphics.
I dont go beyond 60fps unless i play competitive games.

7600x/7900xt PC combo attached to a 65” LG C1 TV. 4k120fps is the target but will tune settings to achieve minimum 90fps on heavy games. Will never go lower than FSR Quality tho.

I'm on a 1080 so I dial back expectations. But I get 1440/60 in a surprising amount of modern games.
Waiting for 5080 to drop so I can expect 120+ fps.

I loved my 1080 before I upgraded to a 3080. The 1080 ti got all the praise but the 1080 lasted me so fucking years, It was still playing new games this generation at 1080p decently.

i have a 4090 and 7800X3D

my usual setup is:
  • All graphical settings cranked to maximum, including Ray Tracing (only exception to this is path tracing in Cyberpunk 2077)
  • Depth of field, motion blur, bloom and lens flares off, if possible
  • DLSS set to 'Quality' or 'Balanced' depending on the game
  • Frame Generation On
  • Vsync forced On through Nvidia Control Panel
  • Framerate capped to 60 through Nvidia Control Panel
  • Resolution set to 4K
I always get a steady 60 fps.

Even if a game is really well optimized, like Doom Eternal or Death Stranding, i still keep DLSS and FrameGen On because then it saves a lot of electricity and reduces heating.

I have a 1080p 240hz monitor. I usually play single player games at 1080p@120FPS, as I can really push the visuals at that target with a 4070Ti.
If I have performance to spare, I try to improve the IQ by using DLDSR. If I cannot hit 120FPS, then I try my best to reduce the settings to hit that target.

Obviously I unlock the frame rate while playing multiplayer games.

4080 Super + 5800X3D here, I target 60fps minimum with the prettiest graphics possible at 1440p DLSS Quality or Balanced. With the only exceptions being competitive games like CS2 where I want 240fps minimum (240Hz monitor) , I can obviously reach that target with the settings all maxed out, but if I had to lower something to have that stable 240fps I'd do it without much worry.

Projector 4k 60 (no frame gen but using reflex/dlaa when possible)
TV 4k 120 (no frame gen, DLAA)
Work monitor 4k 165.9+ (no FG when possible, DLAA when using an nvidia card)

I have a 4080 running on a ROG Swift OLED 32inch 240Hz but my CPU is still like Intel10th GEN so I probably need to upgrade before I attempt to hit 4k60fps no?

To be fair I'm mostly on WoW/Diablo 4 and the occasional Enshrouded session. But aiming to have good performance for Stalker 2.

(Also Skyrim with a shit ton of mods I'd like to try out)

I only play single player games with an Xbox controller. My PC is just an oversized console.

After spending a bunch of hours playing AAA games at higher frame rates (90-165), I came to understand that for me, it's really not a big improvement over 60fps. My 44yo brain playing on a controller just doesn't get much benefit from the faster frame rates. I can tell a game is more smooth feeling when it's up around 120, but the difference to me is very subtle. Generally speaking, it's not worth the increased heat, fan noise, electricity costs, etc. I have had a similar experience with ray tracing. In most cases it might look a little better, but not worth the trade offs.

I have way too many games to play in my backlog that run perfectly on my current card. While I like buying new toys, I know I won't be able to justify a 5080 anytime soon. I've got other big expenses coming up and very little time to play. I'll probably upgrade my son's PC before my own.

I have a triple 32" 1440p/180 Hz setup. Having said that, I recently upgraded to a 9800X3D and plan to leverage the funds received from the sale of my 4090 to (partially) fund my 5090 purchase in a few months. I should probably upgrade my main gaming monitor to a 4K/144Hz+ display shouldn't I?

With that PC you'd want to pair it with an equally good display and 4K OLED. One of the biggest upgrades for visual fidelity and proper HDR.

2025 ones should be interesting with higher brightness and refresh rates.

I have a 4070 Super which is mid range not high end but there is plenty of people in here with lesser GPUs.

1440p/120hz (1440p/240hz OLED) and 4K/60 (LG C2) generally with DLSS Performance at 4K and Balanced/Quality at 1440p.

I'm happy to see a lot of people using 1080p 120 144, game assets don't change but GPU costs increase a lot with higher resolutions and higher refresh rates.

I remember when my RTX 3080 10gb was high end.

Despite that utter shortcoming, I still try to hit 4k/60 on my TV and >60 on my 34" ultrawide computer monitor.
We have the rare Pokémon card that everybody wanted for a certain period of time.

3090 gpu
4k120 in backlog games
4k60 in newer games

im an IQ slut though, and depending on the game, i may be happy to drop it to 4k40 for visuals.
3090 getting long in the tooth. ready for the big daddy 5090.

3440x1440p @ 120hz. Anything over 60 fps is grand, but I always prioritize quality over performance, if I can.

And, with me having a 4090 + 7800X3D + 64 GB DDR5, etc, I never have an issue with anything.

Using DLSS quality/balanced to keep the framerate at a good position. If DLAA/RTX I'll lower my standards to 1440p60 but never lower.
