Platformers, action, adventure, arcade, music/rhythm, shooters...
Sonic was pretty awesome at one point, though I wouldn't say any of them outdid SMB3, and they made quite a few other great platformers. Adventure, well, that's ethelred's inner fanboy talking.Nicktals said:wait...SEGA outdid Nintendo in platformers and adventure games? Please tell me the titles, because if there are games out there better than super mario world and LoZ:LttP I would really like to buy them.

In what ways exactly was Sega more "creative" than Nintendo? The only genres Sega "outdid" Nintendo in were the ones that Nintendo traditionally never touches, such as sports and RPGs.
NiGHTs Into Dreams was a pretty big left hook from Sega, although it didnt translate into sales success. Samba De amigo, JGR/JSRF, Panzer Dragoon, Space Harrier, Ristar...the list goes on. Sega was always more unique with their game designs than Nintendo was, who relies heavily on established franchises for success. GREAT success I might add. But Sega always stood out to me, even as a nintendo fan.miguel_c_hammer said:Um... no. Sega has never been anywhere near Nintendo as a developer, not even in their "glory" days. So why don't you go preach your gloom and doom to somebody who reallly cares. Because the Biggest advantage in Sony's Previous Two Past Obliterations of the competition, will enable them to again smash a PS3-Peat in the face of both Nintendo's Take Out Burger King Console and M$'s Denny's (3 lights of doom) poison pit stop console.
You see, of the three consoles in this race, Sony is the only one with it's own factory's. The Only One with it's own BluRay Diode Production Lines. The Only One with a massive reserve of previous Playstation customers 7 times it's closest competitor with closing in on 230 Million total sold to date. With a mind boggling sum of over 15,000 titles all total. So they will (as they have done every time) set the price and lower the price on their terms, and when they are ready. So in the end, the PS3 will not only have market dominance within 3yrs in Game Consoles but BluRay as well! You can safely bet your 2bit allowance on that!
But attacking Kutaragi when he has brought so much to the Gaming world in general will prove to be your own and haters like you's own Death Chant! That statement will come back and haunt you in the History Books!
Kutaragi has more brains in his pinky than you have in your whole head. He is a genius of major proportions who single handedly took Sony and the entire 3D Gaming World out of 2D Darkness! Now he has unleashed the Sony PS3 with 9core Cell BE and it is being used in the Army's "Future Force Warrior" Program, Hybrid Super Computer's for DOD, Pentagon and NASA. Why? Because of his Superior Secure Networking and chip of Security! IBM Blade Servers, Hybrid Servers, Medical Equipment, and PS3 Gamers are helping to cure the Cancer you seem to have in your brain.
Where is the Wii's chip being used? As a Prize in it's box of Cracker Jacks Console Only?
Where's the X360's Xenon being used besides to flash the 3 Rings of Doom, Circle of Death, and to corner the market on Most Expensive Door Stops?

Wait. I lost my knife. Oh well, I guess I can't go wrong with a classic.

Sega was definitely more creative than Nintendo in the SNES/Genesis era, but the Nintendo of the NES era was genius.ethelred said:I think it's pretty hard to knock the platforming awesomeness of the Genesis, between the Sonic games, Ristar, TJ&E2, Vectorman, Castle of Illusion/Quackshot, etc. Then Sega segued directly from the Genesis to NiGHTS...
No, not that. There actually aren't any Genesis adventure games that I would say individually topped Link to the Past, but if you look at their output in the genre in total (Oasis, Landstalker, Centy, TJ&E, the Eccos, on and on) during that period, yeah, I think they definitely come out ahead. What'd Nintendo have aside from Zelda? And that's just on the Genesis. Expand it out to the Saturn and Dreamcast too, if you like.
There's also a lot more creativity there, honestly, and less reliance on established franchises (which was what Innotech's original remark was)... I just don't think it's at all accurate to mockingly suggest the quality of the two companies in development was leagues apart.
Ketchup Boy said:No, not at all, but thats how I wish it was divided. 40-35-25 or 40-30-30 Like this, Nintendo wouldn't just keep getting crappy ports and get more third party support while devs would still have a reason to develop for X360/PS3 because theres a lot of market for those systems unlike it is now.

As for poor PS3 sales costing Sony money, the PS3 is sold at a loss. The less they sell the less the losses.

under 9k? damn it all to hell. maybe the piracy announcement earlier will boost some sales? maybe?
I guaran-damn-tee you that kook is real. I dont know many XBOx or Nintendo fans who are that crazy and I know some real diehards. Its amazing to me these people cant see teir beloved yet hideously overpriced system is getting spanked by ratios approaching 8:1 in some regions, and somehow think it will magically be jumpstarted with two franchises (which are gradually declining as it is) and begin to sell on a rate high enough to not overtake 360, but also the wii. which basically means moving a vastly more expensive console, not just at the Wiis rate, but ABOVE the wiis rate, and ofr an extended period of time enough to overtake the console. sorry but I dont see this happening no matter how many games they get on it. If anything, it will be the same slow burn as XBOx360 has, with high software sales of a few titles a month and sluggish hardware sales. The casual market IS everything to win the overall marketshare and the wii is not only runnig away with that portion, but has THE quintessential killer app to do it, bundled right with the system...pakbeka.. said:I was about to post that :lol

They were listening to GAF, which as we all know is the single worst decision anyone can make.TheGreatDave said:What confuses is me is how everybody could tell you the casual market is the most important for ensuring healthy console growth, yet Microsoft and Sony just went in a silly little arms race with each other. Did nobody at those companies try having a word with the men in charge? Casual success is not impossible for either of those consoles but the 360 has essentially thrown away it's headstart by letting Wii get so much momentum and God knows when PS3 can move to an even slightly reasonable price.
