At the rates they're going, they may be able to reach about 500k+ and maybe 300k, which is not bad at all.donny2112 said:Famitsu May 21-27

I'm wondering if the failure of the Sony's system provides some motivation for the Japanese hardcore to take a harder look at the competition. It undeniably has a good lineup of games. This is the first positive news I've heard about the 360 in Japan in a long time.

WII = 2,604,944
PS3 = 910,737
360 = 366,646
(910,737 + 366,646) * 2 < 2,604,944
2,554,766 < 2,604,944
Alternatively...
Total consoles = 2,604,944 + 910,737 + 366,646 = 3,882,327
Wii marketshare = 2,604,944 / 3,882,327 = 0.67097490757476121923784369528893

Yeah, and before we get into it, folks, Super Nintendo DID beat Genesis worldwide, but it was close... and it was the only closely-competitive generation this industry has (and likely will) ever see.GaimeGuy said:Every console that has won in japan has won worldwide.

No, it was pretty close in Europe, too, from what I remember seeing, Japan put SNES over the hump. But whatever, the whole point was the stop the delusionals from starting that eternal debate over who actually "won" all over again. We can at least agree who won, though.AdmiralViscen said:SNES vs Genesis wasn't close worldwide, only in the US. ~50M vs ~30M WW.
yes but also Nintendo and Sega were roughly equally good developers. Nintendo always made a lot more money though with smarter hardware choices and better financial responsibility. but Sega was usually more creative and honestly outdid Nintendo in many genres. That really was a golden age of gaming and at least the two players are still making games. I would have loved to see Sega stay in the console race and continue duking it out today.Terrell said:Yeah, and before we get into it, folks, Super Nintendo DID beat Genesis worldwide, but it was close... and it was the only closely-competitive generation this industry has (and likely will) ever see.

Ummm... didn't only ONE Virtua Fighter game ever break a million in Japan? And wasn't it chronically outsold by Tekken in the States? If we're trying to poo-poo on historical precedent, that is not the example to use.Sharp said:Oh, I dunno, guys. I don't think we can just judge the situation based on historical precedent here. After all, Virtua Fighter 5.

I'm not sure if it was constantly in shortage or if it was readily available for a short while before stock ran low due to international launch preparation, but you can see that according to Famitsu it was on a near-constant downward slope from week 19 through week 40, and shortly thereafter started staying regularly around 50K.AdmiralViscen said:How long did PS2 shortages exist in Japan, after launch?
miguel_c_hammer said:Um... no. Sega has never been anywhere near Nintendo as a developer, not even in their "glory" days.
miguel_c_hammer said:In what ways exactly was Sega more "creative" than Nintendo? The only genres Sega "outdid" Nintendo in were the ones that Nintendo traditionally never touches, such as sports and RPGs.
