Monster Hunter Wilds user score discrepancy between PC and consoles

I don't get it either. Why are there still fights over hardware when everyone agrees this is a horribly optimized game?
Like you want us all here on a united front to what really matters???

Capcom engine has always looked crunchy as fuck, yet we're gonna argue a $4k graphics card is somehow gonna make it looked like a polished hi-res turd.

The Steam score was in the low 40s and has been steadily increasing. The day 1 negative reviews will get drowned out as the players get into the latter parts of the game.

Self-selection bias is a real thing. If it is just 16% in the cherry-picked self-selected Steam poll, 5% is being too generous.
Self-selection bias? It’s random, automated in data collection, completely anonymous, and (judging by the meticulously breakdown of the data), sent to tens of thousands of Steam users a month. 5090 users are no more likely to respond compared to 3060 users, as there is absolutely nothing to show off or be ashamed of.

This is a good idea but it would become a privacy nightmare. Doing a separated anonymous aggregate should be OK though.
Privacy nightmare? If it’s just logging system specs such as CPU, GPU and RAM then it can’t be a problem, can it?

It would be super useful. They could add it into the filtering so you could see what people with similar specs as yourself think about the game. As it is you have no idea if the performance issues talked about is going to be a problem for yourself. And final solution to get rid of uncertainty, a free benchmark tool you can install and try on your own PC like they did with Black Myth Wukong.

How exactly could they be voicing their disappointment with 1080p when the majority of them have 1080p displays? Think about it. It means the majority are experiencing all games at 1080p or lower. The disparity is in fact a result of many of those PCs running this game poorly, even those with similar specs to PS5/XSX.

How many of those 1080p players aim at 120/144/240fps? Many of them stay on 1080p for high fps.

And most console players have 4k screens. Are they happy with diarrhea on screen on base PS5 version and soft 1080p image of Pro version? Apparently they are because they don't care...

Upscaled to 4k with 60fps.

Wasn't capcom just saying how much they love PC now and how at least 50 percent of their income is coming from that market? I'm parpahrasing here, but you get the point. Seems like they didn't give this port the proper amount of resources.

Screen real estate matters as well. 24 inch native 1080p looks significantly better compared to a 1080p image on a 65 inch 4K set. PPI is something to be aware of.

The game sold millions on PC. Sounds like they gave it just the right amount of resources. That is to say, the bare minimum to ensure a smashing success.

Also, off topic, but isn’t it rather amusing how all of us from metric countries default to inches for televisions and monitors? I’ve never used imperial in my life but know perfectly well how inches translate into screen size.

Ok? They play at 1080p still, and define many. The high end isn't that high in number especially to be hitting 240fps in this game particularly.

Not saying you're wrong, but do you have a source on that?

No. Both PlayStation and Xbox know things like that but I haven't seen any data from them.

But it would be logical. Since mid 2010's most tvs sold are 4k. Even super cheap ones. 4k was pushed very hard.

So most people that don't have decade old tvs have 4k tvs in their home.

I don't know if steam has metrics for refresh rate. But HFR gaming on pc started a long time ago.

They also didn't bought their screens for this game, that's for sure lol. More like fps games.

Didnt say there wasn't high refresh rate monitors before. Just that the majority have 1080p screens and they're not exactly playing this game at 240fps. Other games they obviously could be but the majority don't have systems to be running this at high framerates.

Breaking News! My game was running fine on my PC, but after some 200MB update, it now crashes on launch. Guess I'll be playing KCD2 until they sort this out.
Amazing experience, am I right?

PCs whining again. The platform has been an absolute shitshow lately much to to chagrin of many here. Windows 11 is their main platform, lol. All these years pretending they are better than everyone else and they can't even enjoy games anymore. lol. Then get on here and try to play off this super shitty PC port by crossing their fingers, telling a bunch of lies and hoping we let them pass out of ignorance or apathy. I'll allow it. For me it is apathy. Enjoy!

Surprised it has so many reviews on PSN, most of the normies buy stuff and don't bother leaving a score, at the same time, it works different than steam so makes sense

27.6K reviews for a new game that just came out recently is a lot

I've put about 4 hours into the PC version, enduring many, many crashes to get that far. Now I'm just past where you meet the leader of the Ewoks the first time and it crashes every single time as I start to move my character. Every. Single. Time.

Yeah on Steam you have to write something to rate a game while on PSN it's just a button. Huge difference.

I know, and that's why I said it works different, all games should get more scores on PSN given how easy it is to do so, but majority dgaf 🤷‍♂️

The PC version seems to be the worst version right now so it makes sense. Plus the majority of people are playing on machines that are worse or on par with the consoles so with how unoptimized the PC version is it's going to perform way worse.

Most PC players won't have the ability to brute force the game.

Console players will eat a shit sandwich and smile.
Shut the fuck up with this PCMR bullshit.

Normally, on consoles the game needs patches to improve it, but on PC it is completely broken, you need a very powerful computer for it to run "acceptably".

We know you guys don't care. That's the whole point of this topic. You'll accept bullshit with a smile. PC players won't, hence the scathing reviews on Steam.
PS5 Pro isn't outperforming anything, it's the PC that's is underperforming because of... reasons...

LOL, whatever you have to tell yourself, doesn't change the end result

has nothing to do with the actual game, just performance, the game is pretty decent. so, "latter parts" don't actually matter.

Try default clocks for CPU and GPU. Benchmark was super sensitive.

You know the game look like shit when on reeee the defenders post this stuff to prove that it doesn't look like an early ps4 game :messenger_tears_of_joy: :messenger_tears_of_joy:
Saw some gameplay clips and fighing against a monster is like facing a grey blob against a gray background. What the fuck happened with the art department during the production of this game is a mistery worth an X File.

Thanks for the tip, but my CPU and GPU are all at stock clock speeds, I never bothered manipulating them.

It's really strange, like for instance, leading up to where it's consistently crashing for me, I played for a good 1.5 hours without a crash, but as soon as I got to the Forest area and met those critters, it's crashing left and right, leading up to the talk with the leader, and now when I come out of that cutscene it just crashes over and over.

I've tried all the tricks/tips posted on reddit and such (drivers, windows paging size, clean install, remove high res texture pack, etc) and nothing fixes it. Really disappointing.

PC players have no problem eating trash evidently. So why should capcom offer them better?

Monsters are really the only standout, not because they look better than monsters in other games but because they at least look similar to currrent gen stuff, you probably saw a bug of textures not loading, i didn't had that luckily.

The locations are straight up a downgrade compared to world, if not graphically, art design wise, no idea how capcom fucked up this much.

The ice area is worse
The forest area is worse
The fire\volcanic area is worse

Nothing comparable to rotten vale, coral heighs or the crystal place.

Even fucking rise has more memorable locations and that was already a downgrade compared to world.

How do you explain my game completely skipping the shader compile thing and running smooth as butter without the texture pack?

I'm usually super lucky with buggy games but i feel like i'm a living miracle with this particular game...

No crashes aswell except if i try to quit for the desktop and save at the same moment, if i save before and then exit no crashes at all.

Did my lucky ass just casually discovered that the compile shader thing is ruining the game for people or what? :lollipop_grinning_sweat:

Would you say the monsters look better and animate better in this than Dragon's Dogma 2?

Probably better, more varied animations, not sure about the graphic, my brain has tried to erase that wet fart from my memory but i was never impressed by the graphic of that game once.

Monsters in wilds look great but not a generation better than this or even close

The end goal is to look like big budget movies cg creature or at the very least lile mknster hunter movie monsters and we are nowhere there.
Fantasy skin for dragons and creatures haven't seen a major upgrade in the past 10 years or so, the dragon in gow 2018 still look as "realistic" as any dragon in 2025

Different artstyles, barely any graphic difference, they still look like videogamey dragons.
Hell the dragon in demons imo look even worse than gow dragon.
