Good to see variations in preferances. I bounced off Astrobot after realizing I had to go back in levels and find all those astro-dudes before unlocking more levels. Currently getting my gf to do that stuff, so I can just enjoy more levels.
Stellar Blade also felt very "meh" to me.
Still very happy with 2024 as a gaming year, though!
And lots of 2024 releases (incl Indy) will be gettin played in 2024 between all the awesome stuff coming.

I am Gernan and normally don’t agree with German tastes. The tv program ist just garbage and also in other things my taste is different. Happy to live in Japan for 15 years already, but this is a choice, I 100% agree to.

Good game. I'm not rushing back to it much to play, but I'll get round to more of it eventually. Solid 8/10.
Great game the devs really did a good job overall. This is prob the only game in recent memory i did not skip a single cutscene. I'm not a big side quest explorer guy but for whatever reason I found myself wanting to explore the world and find it's secrets. All I need now is for someone to give me a vr port of this game.

I would like to see some mix of games for GOTY awards rather than press shilling for a single title.
Makes it feel like actual people giving awards based on their taste.

Deserved! My GOTY as well.
Besides a couple delayed releases this year in general still ended up being quite spectacular for me:

(Fantastic but wobbly launch)
Sot Erdtree (Should’ve been standalone)

(Invisble walls grrr)

BO6 (Campaign is awesome!)
Hellblade 2 (Best graphics ever!)
And I still have games I can’t properly rate yet, plus upcoming Rebirth for PC but I guess that’ll go as a 2025 release, and bought a couple new ones yesterday as well after seeing DF John’s list. Been enjoying Forbidden West too, on my top 5 for most played games this year on Steam, gets far too much criticism imo.

I’ll try to play it this weekend. Great developer, I just hope they don’t try and milk the franchise and go to another IP before they revisit Indy.

I don’t think they need to do another IP in between. It would take many years to make another one of this quality, the design and care in how lived in every place feels is really something else, a new game would probably arrive middle of next generation at the earliest.

not even 1k votes in that final matchup, also Indy had a lot easier path to the finals too given it only faced down Hellblade 2, Smace Marine 2, and Like a Dragon 8 while Astrobot went through Wukong, Rebirth, and Helldivers 2
Indy is really good/great but I don’t think it would have won in a straight-up vote against all the games listed

We can acknowledge that Indy won this "tournament" while pointing out that it is an incredibly flawed format at the same time.

“It had an easier path!!” isn’t valid because this isn’t a sports tournament or something. It beat the game that beat those supposedly “tough” games.
Not that any of this means jack shit at the end of the day.

because a bracket is one of the absolute dumbest ways to vote on GOTY? honestly the TGAs approach is better even though that ended up with an absolutely stupid final 5 in large part because of Chinese bots
start with 15-20 and then have rounds with the bottom 5 getting eliminated each time until you get the final 5 and the winner from that selection

You think a bracket is dumb, that’s cool. But you aren’t providing any logic as to why it’s “incredibly flawed”.
edit, your own approach you posted sounds way worse than a bracket and seems easy for warriors and bias to just push a pack of games through to the last round. Seems like a simple bracket is better.

The fact that this isn't a sport tournament is exactly why this "tournament" is flawed. Tournament brackets are created based on seeds rewarding the best performers. None of that applies here. Also, the vote counts are incredibly low. Talking low hundreds for each individual bracket. Hell, GAF polls often get more traffic than that. So yeah...."incredibly flawed".

It’s a Gamescom community poll. Smaller communities are allowed to have dumb awards and polls, too.

Im not saying brackets are great. Just looking for a reason behind the whining besides salt. My logic would be the same regardless of what game won a trivial Gamescom community award.

I certainly think that the PC's presentation vs what I played on XSX would help push you further along. But for me I found the gameplay to be very mediocre/bland paired with some dodgy AI. Which is a shame as I was really looking forward to it. It's a wait for sale game, even if visually boosted on Pro.

No need to be salty just because the format is criticized either then. You asked for reasons why I think award tournaments like this are flawed and I gave them to you. That's the basis for my logic, nothing more.

It took the best part of 30 years to get an Indy game close to the quality of Fate of Atlantis...For Robocop it was a similar issue as well....after watching Die Hard with a Vengeance yesterday that would be awesome if the developers behind this game went onto that, but unlikely..

Game's a bit of a snoozer, I got as far as partway through the stealth-bonking fascists at the Vatican stage, does it eventually develop some gameplay or was Druckmann running this studio under a pseudonym?
