Sony Now Has More Live-Action And TV Shows Planned Than Video Games

It is a bit weird that Sony has more announced tv shows and movies versus game announcements. I'm fine with it. They should have been doing more cross media a long time ago. Should have made animated versions of everything first and then went live action. Sony really needs to expand the number of studios they have. They don't have to be AAA but they could be amazing AA and well-polished plus loaded smaller game studios.

Sony are really branching out with their games and making movies or series. Just another source of revenue and if it helps to bring in more interest for the franchises that is not a bad thing.

Not weird in the least. SIE, for the most part, isn't announcing many of their games well in advance like they did last gen. Last gen by 2016 they had already announced almost every single game for the remainder of the gen. Then by 2017 they had announced everything. Other than a couple of exceptions, they're doing much shorter announce to release windows this gen.

If you'd like to see my take on just how much content is in their pipeline over the next few years, I present to you The Great List of viv

Ok, current list of how I think the rest of the gen could play out. It's not factoring in any data from the Insomniac hack and just goes with what I already had. This is announced content, leaked, rumored, deduced, speculated and includes console exclusives. This is based on the guess that this gen will go until holiday 2028, and it also encompasses an additional 1 year cross-gen period, so up until holiday 2029. This list is what I think will be on the lower end of things and in fact there will be FAR FAR FAR more content in reality, but I gotta start somewhere! Missing from the list are things we can't yet anticipate like more of the Hero project games, first party tentpole DLCs (which usually land around 1 year after release), PSVR2 titles, mobile games we're not yet aware of and more. I'm now sorting it by SIE published and third party games, so enjoy the Great List of viv

Not a bad thing, I'd be down with a Resistance or a Killzone based TV series.
Remember when Xbox was like TV, TV, TV, TV, living room, kinnect, always online, tv... maybe games later, and people rightfully gave them shit about it?

I guess that is where Sony is now, well except no spybox, and kinnect.

Care nothing for "gaming shows" .
Not according to Sony's (or any online service) privacy policy.

"planned" means shit, Horizon was going to be a tv series planned to release on Netflix and that went south quick

It's ridiculous how useless they're, they have a TV/Movie branch and the gaming one and it took how many years to get just one good thing: TLOU and that's HBO doing, right? it wasn't even Sony backing that series 🤦‍♂️
I liked the Uncharted movie.

Remember the whole "Sony has no first-party games until April 2025, LMAO"?
And remember how this Sony first-party game was just announced 3 months later, released in September 2024 and went on to win GOTY at TGA?

I hope Sony fans enjoyed their game last year. You will get another if you're good.

At least PS5 have more upcoming Sony first party games than PSVR2

I don't think that's true, I believe they're both tied currently at zero.

I'd actually be less surprised at a PSVR2 release patch of Microsoft's Minecraft than an actual new game from PlayStation made for its PSVR2. (Hopefully Sony still has some games in the works which they'll throw VR modes into, but unless FairGame$ or Marathon do it, I can't imagine what games we know of might offer that, and even those seem unlikely.)

1. Each of those MLB games I listed are legit full releases played by millions per year.

2. It's a set list that have been running and updating for years. I included the breakdown of what it constitutes above the start of the list.

Which makes the clear bulllshit fantard article just that... Bullshit.

Considering movies are partnered out and/or production only from the IP holders.

Keep up the Low IQ circle jerks, everyone! It's a great exercise in intellectual dishonesty.

Ronin and Stellar Blade are XDEV Japan and Destiny 2 is Bungie, lol.
lol, I thought I had crossed of Honkai, but I saw I didn't so I crossed it off. But I actually had crossed off Destiny 2 by accident thinking I was crossing off Honkai. Ronin is developed by Team Ninja and Stellar was developed by Shift Up.

Development on Rise of the Rōnin started in 2015, with PlayStation Studios' XDev assisting.[9]

It's a similar situation to Bloodborne.

I will give you a little more time to think about it....you will see it....just keep looking.

MLB games are separate annual releases and are played by millions each year. Unless you think that's going to suddenly change, those games will be played by millions of people each

With the exception of online fanboy list wars it should be about whats available to play on the system. Just a few games on that list are available on Xbox.

Then add that Xbox want to release their games on PS5 anyway making list war comparisons a moot point.

Such a primitive take on game development exclusively shared by many green fans. Sony doesn't just chuck money at devs for exclusives.

Quoting Stellar Blade dev:

"The collaboration with Sony has been significant, with the company providing lots of support to the studio. This support includes full localization, marketing, testing, and sharing tools from internal PlayStation studios with the developers. Initially planned as a small game, the partnership with Sony led to a substantial expansion of the project."

Come on Kvally Kvally don't just lol and run lets have a discussion show me where I'm wrong :)

Sony Pictures has announced movies? IM. FUCKING. SHOOK. RIGHT. NOW.

I thought Sony Pictures would announce GAMES
I'm just ready for a Helldivers film. Starship Troopers meets Warhammer with the full on satirical humor and gore.

Sony did produce the Starship Troopers film as well with their Tri-Star Pictures at the time.

John "Rico" Helldiver needs to make a cameo. It's too perfect.

You said that MLB 26,27,28,29 were all released already and played by millions each year.

"Each of those MLB games I listed are legit full releases played by millions per year"

FROM did a good job developing Bloodborne for Sony, yes.

I would like a new Uncharted movie without Holland and Wahlberg. Maybe they can pretend the first Uncharted didn't happen.

Oh who cares that I was a bit loose with the tenses. If that's the best argument you can muster then we're done here

It was Miyazaki's favorite game to work on with Sony Studio Japan.
Yup, it's cool the FROM did with game for Sony. Nothing wrong with Sony assisting when needed. When Miyazaki was wanting to create it for new hardware, the PS4 was presented to him first and ended up not being cross generation with PS3.
